To think this is dangerous?

Guy I know on SM and his wife are into extreme sports. They have a 6 month old baby.

They post a lot of content of them doing said sports and are keen to get the baby involved. Recent posts have included throwing the baby 6ft up in the air on a beach and riding a skateboard in a half pipe with the baby in his arms.

Aibu to think this is a bit risky?

Obviously none of my business really I'm just curious to see people's opinions!

@Aprilx

How do you throw a baby six feet in the air? 😳
Pretty easily. I'm only 5"4 but if I stretch my arms upwards with a baby in them then the baby would be over 6 feet in the air
troobleflooble · 18/11/2021 13:09

@BrunoJenkins the 6ft is just an estimate as I wasn't there in person but he was throwing the baby at least his height (approx. 6ft) above his head so approx. 12ft off the ground.

Baby was just in his arms while he was on the skateboard. Not in a carrier of any type, at one point he puts the baby's feet on the skateboard. It was only a small wooden half pipe not a massive outdoor concrete one but still, seems unsafe to me.

Copy the pics and report to children's services.

ChargingBuck · 18/11/2021 14:19

Guy is a complete tosser (literally).
He's risking his baby just to aggrandise himself on SM.

I hope you report the absolute tool OP.

SeasonFinale · 18/11/2021 14:32

Are these people you actually know or the guy on SM who does photoshop pictures of him doing this type of thing with his baby. If so do you not realise they are fake and photo shopped?

girlmom21 · 18/11/2021 14:57
@Platax the dad was not wearing any protective stuff so in that sense the baby was wearing the same - obviously that's still not good!

I am concerned that they feel this is ok but having had my own horrific experience with SS I am a bit reluctant to report unless it seems that they genuinely don't care for the baby's safety. Also I don't know anything about these people other than their names.
Give social services the social media accounts. They'll do the rest.

troobleflooble · 18/11/2021 15:04

@SeasonFinale it's someone I have met in real life but I don't know well. Friend of a friend. The things I'm talking about are videos not pictures.

I know the one you are referring to though!

Report report report.
Let them defend their idiocy to Social Services.

Our attitude to risk is much more relative and influenced by culture then we realise. Try visiting children's parks in some places in the world! Personally I wouldn't be happy with it either but if the child is loved and cared for, the there are really no absolutes about the what ifs and where to draw a line. Note all the two year olds (and under!) in basket saddles at hunt meets. Or the endless sugar we feed our children despite knowing the stats on diabetes and obesity. Or unfettered internet access. All genuinely and seriously brimming with the potential for negative consequences. This baby will probably be fine. I'd be more concerned if they had an uncovered pond in the garden.

Yeah and in most of the world it's considered completely normal to sit on the back of a moped with your baby in your arms. Doing that everyday must be more risky than an occasional half pipe?

I dont think that you can do much about these dare devil people doing all this extreme stuff on social media, even with children involved... In the days before social media, this probably wouldn't have happened. It seems that some people just wan't to show off their crazy antics now. They surely must know, that taking risks, can cause horrendous accidents, and even death.. It would be hard to stop people. or track them down doing crazy stuff, as some of them go to isolated places to perform.
