To be seething that someone is trying to cheat me an expensive item on eBay?!

Sold a BNWT expensive designer blouse on eBay which has gone through the global shipping programme. The buyer messaged me with a picture to say that there's a hole on the sleeve. There is no hole in the one I sent!! The picture the buyer sent me is a zoomed in view but it looks like a terrible quality replica.

I made the terrible mistake of just uploading stock photos and can't believe I didn't take pics of the actual blouse. Does this mean I'm now doomed and will lose hundreds of pounds to this scammer, who will end up getting the genuine item for free? I know eBay almost always sides with the buyer so not feeling hopeful here. Also the buyer has over 2k ratings on eBay and is clearly business seller. Any tips at all on how I could protect myself? Feel so sick about this whole ordeal.Sad

Do you the receipt,or proof of purchase of the original? If she sends you the fake, raise it with eBay, and make sure you message her through eBay to say that's what you will do

ponderingthisthing · 18/11/2021 09:21

@Cowpad

You ask the buyer to send to item back to.when you received the item back,you refund the buyer.take some pics of the actual item,mention all the flaws and relist.dont blame ebay for what is clearly your mistake.
Are you actually my buyer, gaslighting me?You sound just like her, typos and all.

@Waahingwashingwashing

Why didn’t you take pictures of the actual blouse?
I thought the stock photos looked better; obviously lesson leant!

As far as the buyer is concerned, you’re likely to be the scammer. No photos of the actual item, just use stock photos and send a faulty item that seems to be a knock off.

Can’t you see how that looks?

ponderingthisthing · 18/11/2021 09:24

@Oftenithinkaboutit

Has she got no negative feedback at all OP?
No negative feedback surprisingly. Loads of feedback written in Chinese so I assume they will sell the genuine item to buyers in China, who will leave a good review for them.

I didn't do the things to protect myself, I know. But the "faulty item" was produced by the buyer, not me.

I’m currently trying to sell a pair of unusual Louboutins on eBay, I’ve taken photos of every part of the shoe but this worries me too. Where else is there to sell them? I have tried Vinted but I wanted a quick sale.

Chocolatewheatos · 18/11/2021 09:28

You should have taken pictures of yours. And always post tracked and insured.

As someone else said. No genuine buyer would buy from stock photos, you assume the seller isn't genuine.

billy1966 · 18/11/2021 09:29

Surely if you have proof of purchase plus photos of whatever dud they are trying to pass off, you will have a case?

Jumpingintochristmas · 18/11/2021 09:29

If I was EBay I would suspect you of being the scammer. Stock photos only, fake of same item sent. I believe you have been naive, however it doesn’t look good for you.

WindyWindsor · 18/11/2021 09:29

I would never buy or sell expensive items on eBay for this reason unfortunately. I imagine you have been scammed and you're going to receive the replica back Sad eBay is awful for stuff like this

Waahingwashingwashing · 18/11/2021 09:30

But the op has no proof of what her blouse looked like because she didn’t take photos?

MichelleScarn · 18/11/2021 09:34

Once sold an absolutely unworn dress on eBay, was a dress for a themed hen, I was pregnant so couldn't even try it on, never mind actually wear it. EBay sided with the buyer who said it had make up on it and they'd thrown it out so couldn't return Hmm

MichelleScarn · 18/11/2021 09:35

And I had to refund!

Oftenithinkaboutit · 18/11/2021 09:40

No way would eBay have made you refund buyer without photographic evidence and then them not returning the item

Oftenithinkaboutit · 18/11/2021 09:41

You may have to refund but they have to return. That’s the eBay policy

CorrBlimeyGG · 18/11/2021 09:45

*You may have to refund but they have to return."

They can return any old tat, at the seller's cost, and as long as they have proof of postage they'll be refunded.

I will supply the proof of purchase on my part, but there's no way of proving that what they're sending me is a replica is there?

Yes But different scenario to the post I was responding to!
ponderingthisthing · 18/11/2021 09:59

@ChimChimeny

You might be ok, this happened to a friend on a ridiculously expensive pushchair & due to the value (£400/500/600) it wasn't automatically refunded/sided with the buyer.

I can't actually remember the outcome though, I'm afraid!

Thanks for sharing. It cost more than that. Sad I have barely heard of any instance of eBay siding with seller. Completely put off eBay now.

They never automatically refund, even if item just 25p

There’s always an “investigation”

Oftenithinkaboutit · 18/11/2021 10:03

A blouse cost more than £600?

itsacat · 18/11/2021 10:06

Sadly I don't think there is much you can do. I stopped selling expensive items on eBay following a disaster involving a Stella McCartney dress I sold. Just let it go, and try and find other platforms going forward

Bollindger · 18/11/2021 10:06

Go to the shop pick up a new blouse, take a few quick photos, plus the area of the problem, send them back to the buyer and eBay saying not there when sent.

motherheroic · 18/11/2021 10:09

This is why I stopped using the global shipping program. The packages k set would get lost or the buyer would try to run a scam.
