Trying to use the contents of a table shown in PowerPoint into an excel spreadsheet.

How on earth do i do it so I haven’t got to type out every god dam cell?

I’m no techy wizz (clearly) but have about 8 slides to do and two hours to do it (got a meeting after drop off and need to have it done before kids are up!).

Can anyone help please?

If you copy and paste the contents of the table into Excel, what does that look like?

Strikemepink · 18/11/2021 05:40

Are the tables in PowerPoint actually tables or have they been inserted as images? If the latter, I think you have no option but to type it across?

stravagante · 18/11/2021 05:42

Can you screen grab them (windows s on my machine) and paste them in as images?

Asasmomhasgotitgoingon · 18/11/2021 05:43

You can either copy and paste the table by highlighting all the cells, copying (right click on your muse and select copy or use the ribbon option) and then formatting in the PowerPoint doc or linking the two documents. For the former
In Excel, open the workbook with the data you want to copy. Drag over the area of data you want to copy, and on the Home tab, click or tap Copy. In PowerPoint, click the slide where you want to paste the copied worksheet data. On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click the arrow below Paste. Then use the ribbon options to format the table and text as required.
For the latter choose the paste option with a link. This means any changes you make in the excel will be carried forward in to your power point but it does mean your ppt doc size becomes enormous.

If you specifically create an excel table in PowerPoint, then you should be able to copy and paste across v easily - and should also be able to copy formatting using the magic Paintbrush tool.

I'm sure there are videos on YouTube!

Nyxly · 18/11/2021 05:44

As above, it's going to depends on how the table was set up in the power point.

Asasmomhasgotitgoingon · 18/11/2021 05:45

Ooops, misread and you’re moving info the other way round. Baffled breast feeding brain. Please ignore!
If it’s a normal table in ppt you should be able to highlight and paste over?

Poolhater · 18/11/2021 05:47

Thanks all! How do I know if it’s a picture or actual spreadsheet? (Like I said no techy wizz and this isn’t my work but someone’s who has gone off sick).

Just to say, it made no sense when I googled it! Hence my ask ok here!

If its a picture you can’t delete/change any of the data in powerpoi t
Mumdiva99 · 18/11/2021 05:53

When you click in the idle of the table does it put a flashing cursor next to the number so you can change the number....if so it's a table.
If when you click all that happens is you select the edge of the 'photo' and no amount of clicking puts a flashing cursor then it's an image.

BobbieT1999 · 18/11/2021 05:54

I haven't used excel in a while but I doubt it's changed drastically...When you go to the insert table button click the little arrow and it should give you the option of an excel table. Can also insert via the Insert menu on the menu bar.

stravagante · 18/11/2021 06:13

Sorry, I read it as going from excel to pp.

If you click around randomly in the PowerPoint table, do different parts get highlighted, or does the cursor appear in there like you could change some of the data in there?
If it’s a picture it’s just a big chunk and you can only select the whole thing.

monkeysox · 18/11/2021 07:41

To get pic of table.
Ppt. Insert screen shot scree clipping and draw a box round the bit in ppt you want into Excel.

If you want to edit the numbers in excel right click table in ppt and copy then paste into Excel.

bordermidgebite · 18/11/2021 07:42

Sometimes if you copy it to word first it then will copy and paste to excel properly

SolasAnla · 18/11/2021 08:33

Its been a while but If excel has add hyperlinks option:
Open the PowerPoint page.
Open the excel sheet click on add hyperlink, select external document to highlight pic or data in PP.
Check it's displaying what you want in excel.
Edit the link until you are happy with the disply.

NB leave the automatic update off and if you expect to use the layout and data again save finished document as Template 1 then go in and break all the Links and save as current version.
