Not an aibu, didn’t want to put it in the title Incase of sensitive stomachs on here.
DS is 4 and has woke up vomiting everywhere, but it absolutely STINKS of rotten egg/poo. Has anyone ever heard of this? I won’t be getting any sleep as he’s fallen back to sleep but I actually woke up to him choking on his vomit (he was already in my bed, luckily). He’s on the spectrum which makes simple bugs a whole lot more hard work bless his little heart, but my guts telling me to get him seen right now (not that there’s anyone awake to take us, but id find a way regardless), whereas my logical head is saying monitor him closely through the night and morning, if he seems the same or worse ring GP and ask for advice? Thank you!!

Feel so sorry for him, he was the first in the house to get the tummy bug going round here about 2 weeks ago, all the kids had it and are over it, then it’s come back to him againSad. On the plus side house is sparkling clean with not a spec of dirt in sight (I do have a clean house anyway, but not usually this disinfected haha)
It’s hit him hard he’s slept most of the day but even a little sip of water or a few ducks of an ice pop and it’s coming out 1 end or the otherSad x

If he's not even keeping water down, that may be a problem, is he dehydrated?

SickCrisis101 · 18/11/2021 16:00

I’ve put dioralyte in his water but he’s clicked that when he drinks, something nasty happens. He hasn’t peed in a while, although he’s still in nappies so hard to tell if he’s peed when having diarrhea as it’s pure water! I did phone the number they gave me which is a 24 hour access number and asked them they just said to let him sleep and offer little bits of water, and that if he’s still the same by Monday do a poo sampleConfused

Let’s hope you haven’t spread norovirus around all the other poor people in A & E 🙄

SickCrisis101 · 18/11/2021 16:05

@FrownedUpon yes maybe I should of kept him at home with a potential blockage and just waited to see if he ended up with a ruptured bowel your rightHmm

OP posts:
Mykittensmittens · 18/11/2021 16:07

The dioralyte can also be given on a teaspoon or in a calpol syringe. Tiny tiny quantities.

DD was hospitalised with dehydration cause by a stomach bug and that’s what they did. 5ml every 5 minutes for an hour.

This 'protect the NHS' stuff is getting on my tits

SickCrisis101 · 18/11/2021 16:20

@Mykittensmittens ah yes the fluid test, I will try it on a spoon thank you, am open to any suggestions, now he’s clicked it’s coming straight back up/out, he’s screaming the house down every time I try and get him to drinkSad

OP posts:
GoldenBlue · 18/11/2021 16:56

How about an ice pop? something nice for him but licking it takes the fluids in very slowly so unlikely to cause vomiting (a but like ice chips are allowed whilst waiting for surgery)

WaterAndRichTea · 18/11/2021 17:13

If he is bringing everything up after a drink and he has severe diarrhoea and vomiting
You need to be ringing 111 back

He could become very sick very fast with hydration

SickCrisis101 · 18/11/2021 17:21

@GoldenBlue we’ve been offering ice pops, he has a few sucks and sais he doesn’t want itSad
@WaterAndRichTea that’s why the hospital gave me a 24 hour access number to avoid going through all the channels again, they just advised to keep a close eye, offer water and a poop sample if he’s still the same on MondayConfused it does seem he would benefit fluids through IV since he’s point blank refusing anything. I’m going to phone back and explain my concerns, will be a battle getting him back there but cruel to be kind comes to mindSad

Hmm ffs
shouldistop · 18/11/2021 17:56

Would he eat some jelly?

May we have your personal list of what may and may not require a visit to A&E? I'm sure we'd all find it super-helpful.

In fact it's the sort of help a National phone line with a easy to remember phone number could use.

Do you feel good for saying that?🙄
EarringsandLipstick · 18/11/2021 18:07

I really wouldn't worry about his fluid intake now.

Follow the guidance you've been given & of course if he doesn't improve and there is zero fluid intake in a day, then revisit.

I've no idea why you thought anything was ruptured though.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/11/2021 18:09

how about flat full fat coke?

BubblesThaDragoon · 18/11/2021 18:12

@FrownedUpon yeah because keeping a young child at home with potentially life threatening fecal impaction is a way better option isn’t it 🥴

EarringsandLipstick · 18/11/2021 18:21

with potentially life threatening fecal impaction

There was no indication at all of this.

In fact

Doctors have put it down to a stomach bug so sent us home and told to keep a close eye on him

I'm not saying OP shouldn't have gone to A&E, it's her child, she has to decide. However I wouldn't have in these circumstances especially considering the nature of the illness & how it might transmit to others.

Cindercat · 18/11/2021 18:27

Sorry have to agree - this wasn't an A&E situation. OP should have called 111. Most likely scenario was always a bug and it really isn't ok to go to A&E with potential norovirus and spread it round everyone else there. If 111 had advised A&E - fine. But I don't think they would have and I do think OP should have called them first.

I was sent to a&e by 111 when my daughter had norovirus!
PeaceInMyLife · 18/11/2021 18:32

You live and you learn OP. I wouldn't have gone to A&E as I would have assumed stomach bug but don't beat yourself up about it.

Follow their advice, if in doubt then ring them back. I'm sure your ds will be absolutely fine in a few days.

SickCrisis101 · 18/11/2021 18:33

Sorry I just realized I hadn’t put in anywhere that it WAS 111 who advised A&E due to it sounding like a blockage, they also tried to send an ambulance but said I would make my own way there. Didn’t mean too drip feed!
