Nocturnal panic attack

I've just had one. I haven't had one for a few years. I suffered with them back in 2017 and 2018, I must of had about 7 episodes back then. First one today since. I can't even describe it, I almost feel possessed like something else is taking control of my mind. I suddenly wake too, and don't feel tired just like something is taking over my mind and nervous system. It's very scary and I hate it.

If anyone else has had them what do you do to calm yourself down. I literally had to get up and pace around my house. It eventually wore off when I sat up back in bed. Nothing triggers them, I don't even need to have a dream it will just happen.

Much sympathy- my son gets these and I know they are really scary. It’s a horrid trick turning on parts of survival instincts for no cause A blip in the wiring. Hope you can relax a bit

I don’t have these but can get very anxious at night. I put Netflix on and find something to do at the same time whilst sitting there.

Please dont just ignore your panic attack as a blib. There is something psychological going on inside you, that you ignore.please seek help from a professional counseller or therapist.they only increase in frquency,if you ignore it.

I suffer from these, thought it was just me imaging it until I mentioned it to my GP, who said, "Yes, it is a thing"

Mine aren't linked to dreams, but to one of my fears. I am scared of finding myself trapped in an enclosed area, think potholing (I can't even watch potholing documentaries), have never encountered anything like tthis, so it's not aa past experience. I can remember the dreams I am having just before it switches to being trapped, nowhere near related. Then like you I wake up having a panic attack, crying, unable to breathe, it is a full on panic attack. Then pace the house frightened to sit or lie down again, as I am sure that I will die if I fall asleep again.

I usually pace around for awhile then find something on my tablet to watch ( I have a few videos loaded on it that I know will calm me) until I doze off, I know I won't sleep fully for a few days after an attack, but at least I will at least doze on and off for a few hours..

It's bloody scary, so I know how you feel and it is a real thing..

It's 2am and I've just woken panicking. A lot of it is my narc ex partner.
