To feel this is still progress

So I really struggle with my weight. I am obese but I am pretty active. I lost weigh before lockdown but unfortunately I have regained most of it. I tend to be able to eat better and reduce weight when things are settled and right now things are still difficult.
I joined a gym a month ago and during my induction had a Body Composition thing done. I repeated this today.
My overall weight hasn't changed but my my water and lean tissue has increased and body fat has reduced.
So whilst some weight loss would be welcome actually losing body fat is a great start I feel.
I suppose I ask because everyone is so focused on obesity being bad and certain people have asked if I have lost weight. but I feel that in the circumstances this is still good and hopefully I will be motivated to continue.

Well done OP. Sounds like good news to me. How do you feel?

Weight itself is a clunky and clumsy measure. I haven’t been weighed since 2006. It’s only one very small part of the picture i think.

Of course it's progress - losing fat is much more important than losing weight, and gaining muscle is good.

Great news OP you are heading in the right direction. Keep doing what your doing.

Personally I wouldn't use the word bad to describe obesity I view it as a physical condition that can be reversed and improved upon.

You're definitely heading in the right direction OP and you're right, it's a great start.

Of course obesity is bad, even though it's a reversible physical condition.

It's never good is it?

AngelaBlack · 17/11/2021 00:58

I feel good and tbh it has made me feel encouraged to keep working out as I feel for me this is key.

Just keep going OP whatever people say on here. Any negativity will not be good at all. It's a battle isnt' it, i'm a tad wobbly myself. You'll have ups and downs, the main thing is to keep going with your plans, good luck and best wishes

No it is never good.

However other less demeaning adjectives can be used to describe.

Obesity is a complex condition often linked to mental health. Our choice of words are important.

Each to their own tho.

Most definitely progress, @AngelaBlack!
In fact, it's the preferable way.
Increased muscle means faster metabolism (even at resting-rate, calories burned are increased just by having more muscle) so now the fat will drop even more quickly, as you continue with your efforts.
It's a positive 'snowball' effect.
Stellar. 👍 👏👏👏
