Concerned about my 3.5 year old

Am I being over the top in my worrying about him?

He seems ill all the time lately. Just to add, he goes to nursery twice a week and playgroups regularly.

So he had a sickness bug in September (throwing up), I then caught it…he then had a chesty cough that he needed antibiotics for, the next thing was a very snotty nose and holding his ear saying it hurt, then two weeks ago I was called up to collect him early from nursery because he’d thrown up…he had a high temperature that time, but was over it in 24 hours.
Then today he woke up full of snot, a little off his food, but not out of sorts and no temperature.
This evening he ate all his dinner, then about 20 mins later he threw the contents of his stomach back up again…all his lunch in there too Confused he then went back to playing and was completely fine in himself, no temperature. Just very snotty.

Do we need to contact the GP? He has vitamins everyday and a probiotic.

We’re taking so much time off work between us, it’s getting ridiculous. And nursery always call me to pick him up, never my partner.

They always ring me too. Mine have been sick with one thing or another since around the middle of September. I personally think that their immune systems are weaker as a result of the length of time we have all been social distancing. It's crap but unavoidable. The last 2 weeks they have been fine but it was ridiculous there for awhile

Did he just start nursery in September? Did he go to daycare when he was younger?

MizzFizz · 16/11/2021 21:47

My daughter is also sick all the time. She's 2 and has been in nursery for about 8 months. I would say she's well about one week in four... Apparently very normal especially given they've missed over a year of common colds due to lockdowns. If he has a bad virus, I definitely recommend taking him in to the GP just for peace of mind. My daughter ended up being put on a daily puffer because she apparently gets "viral wheeze" which makes her more sick than other kids who don't have that.

Rainbowdinosaurs · 16/11/2021 21:49

@Hankunamatata No, he’s been going to nursery since he was 11 months old when I went back to work after maternity leave.
He doesn’t go during school holidays though, only term time.

Mine went through a phase of this...... it does pass, dreadful while it's going on though,

TulipsGarden · 16/11/2021 21:57

Mine's the same. There have been a few threads on it, it's common at the moment with this age group. He seems to get ill every two weeks, on average.

It is really, really getting to me - especially as I always get ill too. However, today we all seem to be well and I am enjoying it so much!

TotallySuper · 16/11/2021 21:58

Have you done a covid test along the way? It presents mainly with d&v in young ones, with the snotty nose too I'd definitely check for covid.

Hankunamatata · 16/11/2021 22:00

It's just a sickness run unfortunately. Amd I'd be ringing your patent to do pick ups

Rainbowdinosaurs · 16/11/2021 22:05

@TotallySuper yes have tried, but he won’t allow us to put anything into his mouth or nose. It’s a real struggle. He was screaming last time and he’s quite strong, so we had to hold him down. I don’t really want to put him through that again Sad unless we really really have to.

He has a lot of symptoms so you really should. For little ones it's nose only, you don't need to do throat and do it when he's asleep. Good luck.

Sorry to hear your little one is sick :(
When nursery call me to collect I ring my husband and we discuss who is best placed to collect... Just because they ring you doesn't mean you have to collect, they just have your number first in their records.

DD didn't get sick (throwing up), but when she first went to nursery she got a cold almost every 2 weeks. We had to keep her off a lot because she was coughing so much and kids at that age pass on colds so easily as they have no concept of germs and hygiene. It really was only for about a year though. She hardly ever gets colds now - maybe once or twice a year. Her immune system must have improved now that shes a bit older.
