To be absolutely fuming with my tiler

He was meant to be here on Sunday. Never turned up, said he would be here at 8am on Monday.

8am, he has childcare problems. Turns up at 2pm and works for 2 hours.

Today, he never turned up and now saying he's coming tonight at 8pm! Again, his wife is out at a birthday and has childcare problems.

Ahhhhhhh... surely this is not my problem. 😣😣😣😣😣

If anyone can recommend a tiler and also someone to do kitchen flooring in Lancashire, send them my way!!!
The kettle is always on and I don't care if they want to start at 7am or 7pm as long as they bloody turn up

BridgetGetTheGin · 16/11/2021 21:29

He said tonight he isn't taking any more jobs till Feb / March now as he doesn't have the time.

He's actually really humble about it but I just wished he had been honest from the offset. He says he will finish tomorrow - arriving at 8am! Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

@LakieLady

This thread is making me anxious.

I'm having the bathroom redone, starting on 6 December.

I hope it doesn't go on for months ...

Don't worry! It'll definitely be finished by Christmas! . . . . . . . . . . 2022
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/11/2021 00:21

^^ sorry why is this wrong of your friend? Ok 9 am is a bit later than I’d expect but not by much and not an exaggerated lie in.
Because they're busy & over a week that's a day lost not starting until 9

I did say that 9 am was a little late, but I can’t see how it’s very late- 8 - 8.30 id have thought was standard?

BridgetGetTheGin · 17/11/2021 08:59

She should get my tiler (the one who wants a lie in)...

Said he'd be here at 8am.

He's just turned up.

You’re lucky only an hour late - ours said “be here tomorrow first thing” - MIDDAY! Midday he showed up!

BridgetGetTheGin · 17/11/2021 16:25

He's nearly finished.

Couldn't make this up... new plumber coming to fit new sinks between 3-4pm. NEVER TURNED UP! Wtf?!

We had a plumber fit our new boiler. Oh thank god it was summer and that we had an electric shower.
Delays after delays after delays which he put down to it being summer holiday and child care issues (pre-covid). Oh no he was the same in school time. So for a different job we got a completely different guy who is amazing and books the gas service when it's due. Lovely.

So far I've managed to book people to fit blinds and spray the kitchen
I can live with it then because finding someone to do tiling and flooring is apparently impossible. Contemplating a new career, I'm always early and reliable Grin

I'm with you 100% there @ulez

I cried real tears due to the lying from my builderet.al.

I ended up sobbing in my garden because work, I say work hahaha, was neverending. The absolute bullshit they come out with makes me want to punch them, but then I'd never get the work done.

HarrisonStickle · 18/11/2021 21:17

It’s been so bad that DH and I vow to not use English builders again. Had much better experiences with ‘foreign’ builders pre-BREXIT

Yeah, they came over here, knicking your jobs.....when actually they came over here and showed you up for the arseholes you are.

FourForFore4 · 18/11/2021 23:31

Our gardener is an utter nob. A job that was due to take 10 - 14 days max is now at 2 months.
2 hour days, showing up late or not at all, illness, family emergencies, lies, me having to accept big deliveries with a newborn, under ordering, ignoring messages & calls - I've bury him if he hadn't already half laid the patio!
It's the lies & avoidance that gets me, I just want to shake him!

HarrisonStickle · 18/11/2021 23:45

@FourForFore4 Did you see my comment about my fence. 13 months from start to finish.

This is topical!
