How do you celebrate your birthday?

Do you go out with friends/make a big thing of it, or have a small thing with family or just a cake etc?

I always think every year to get friends together or do something big, but I always think ‘Nah’ and just have cake, maybe a meal out/weekend away with Dp and toddler.
I’m wondering if I should make more effort and at least do a lunch with mum friends etc? I suppose I don’t love the spotlight on me really, but then see posts with people out for huge nights out or weekends away with a big group.

What do you generally do?

Big party every year and the whole world joins in!

Nothing really, maybe just plan an outing with the husband and kids.

I used to do things with my friends but after I turned 40 I just didn't fancy it anymore and none of my group of friends does anymore either. I think we partied ourselves out the year we all turned 40 Grin

Now I like to just go to dinner with my family and nothing more!

As little as possible! Usually go for a meal with DP. Before that, nothing. I’m just not interested in it; happy to celebrate other people’s birthdays but have zero interest in my own.

On the day itself - we always have birthday cake breakfast, cards and presies in the morning then normally a day out or if it falls right weekend away with DH and DD, normally will have a night out with DH too. Then around my birthday me and my 3 closest friends will get together for a celebration, it's one of my other friends a few weeks later so we normally have a joint celebration, night out or weekend away. I'm a sucker for all celebrations and like to find the joy and fun times!!

Nothing at all.
Just another day to me.

Hbh17 · 15/11/2021 21:47

Nothing, and I totally ignore it. Birthdays for adults are just total non-events.

@SarahBellam

Meal out with DP and kids. No way could I be arsed with the faff of organising a party or big meal then having to talk to people all night.
This for me

I’m not a party person at all so DP & I usually have a weekend away together, just the two of us, including dinner at a Michelin starred restaurant.
