New bathroom £9000?

Nicho59 · 15/11/2021 19:06

Just had a quote for a new bathroom installation. The £9k is inclusive of suite incl separate shower flooring and redecoration. About £4k of that is fitting costs and it will take 2 weeks. Any thoughts fols?

It depends on quality of items chosen and size of bathroom really.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 15/11/2021 19:07

Sounds like a lot to me

Bigfathairyones · 15/11/2021 19:07

Depends on how big, how much work and how nice the fixtures and fittings are. How long is a piece of string unfortunately.

Moraxella · 15/11/2021 19:08

I paid that for a basic bathroom including fitting, sounds right to me

modgepodge · 15/11/2021 19:09

Mine was that much but we did build an extra wall to split off a separate little toilet room. We didn’t use cheap stuff but not top of the range either. Think decorating was a few hundred extra. This is in the south east about 18m ago.

HalfCakeHalfBiscuit · 15/11/2021 19:09

About right for basic spec bathroom

LulusMiniEgg · 15/11/2021 19:10

Dunno but I’ve just been quoted £6600 for the installation 2 toilets/sinks/tiling and that doesn’t include the suite or tiles 😂😂😂
Trades are ridiculous at the moment, can see us living without an upstairs loo for a long time if it’s going to cost that much. We’ve already been waiting to get it sorted since Easter.

Hoppinggreen · 15/11/2021 19:10

Depends
Ours was about 5 and than included a special bath/shower until that cost £1800

wobblywinelover · 15/11/2021 19:10

I got a quote for a new bathroom a couple of years ago, didn't go ahead with it at the time but it was the local (really in demand, popular) local handyman, it was going to cost about £2k to fit over nearly two weeks. That's without the suite. Midlands area. 9k sounds expensive but it's probably about average? Depends on how big your bathroom is and the quality of the fittings and suite. I'm sure someone will come along with more knowledge

DrCoconut · 15/11/2021 19:11

Sounds expensive. Mine was about 2.5k 6 years ago. But it is small and basic.

Cissyandflora · 15/11/2021 19:11

Sounds average. Varies so much. Mine will cost a lot because I need to have a huge amount done. Buildings services and drawings etc. Then the fittings. Etc etc.

LawnFever · 15/11/2021 19:12

Tbh I paid £5k and that wasn’t a separate shower, pretty cheap suite, tiles only 1/2 way round the room & I painted the other walls myself so I can easily see how you could spend £9k really easily

Ljmumun · 15/11/2021 19:12

Just had ours done. Mid priced fittings new concealed pipes and toilet bath and shower all moved round and new pipes cost about that.

This is true too. Everything building related is a lot more expensive this year. My builders merchants told me I could not have picked a worse time to do my bathroom. Costs of materials and labour have skyrocketed. I still need to do it though. I’ll be doing a lot of the work myself which will save a few thousand hopefully.
TheOpenRoad · 15/11/2021 19:14

Sounds ok, I'd expect to pay around there for average size, average quality suite and tiles. Any building work has massively increased in cost since the pandemic

Honestly, this comment about tradespeople is my experience too. They are also so busy they can pick and choose the jobs.
veryouting2021 · 15/11/2021 19:18

We've just had ours done - £6-7k each. Things are expensive right now, especially tradesmen.

sbhydrogen · 15/11/2021 19:19

Sadly it sounds about right!

Damnyoureyes · 15/11/2021 19:20

I’ve just paid £5k for my teeny tiny complete re fit bathroom.
Suite, new separate shower, wall and ceiling panels, new spot lights, new double glazed window, flooring.
Fitting was £1200 and it took 2 weeks.

Thevoiceofreason2021 · 15/11/2021 19:21

Sounds right tbh.

AdditionalCharacter · 15/11/2021 19:21

I paid £6k 2.5 years ago for walk in shower and toilet, fully tiled and flooring done. Given how much prices have gone up in the last year, I'd say it's about right.

DustyMaiden · 15/11/2021 19:22

Sounds good in Essex.

Skinnyankles · 15/11/2021 19:22

We have just had our medium sized bathroom renewed. This involved lots of plumbing work as we rearranged where the bath and toilet went (this included outside plumbing and drilling through walls).

All equipment including fully tiled Walls, shower, bath and bathroom cupboards etc came to just under 4k. I think we had a bargain and our tradesman was wonderful.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 15/11/2021 19:23

It's to cover the cost of sending all that old stuff to landfill and all the CO 2 and other emissions/pollution from manufacturing new stuff.

JurgensCakeBaby · 15/11/2021 19:24

We're in Essex, paid 10k earlier this year , good quality furniture (Burlington) but not super expensive
