Rather than those that wrap over the phone?

Mine hides the fact I've smashed the back of my phone Smile

I don't know what you mean about wrap around cases, are they those hideous pleather things?

notacooldad · 15/11/2021 11:06

I hate the leather ones that wrap around, having to open the cover up like a book Naff imho
Might be naff to you but they have an inside pocket which I can keep my debit, gym, star rewards and blue light card as well as slits where I can put my petrol receipts.
Naffness does the trick for me!

I’ve replaced a broken screen protector (phone screen intact underneath) so that’s why I think they work!

SheWoreYellow · 15/11/2021 11:07

They come up beyond the screen of the phone. So if you drop it flat down then the screen is protected.

DemocracyofHypocrisy · 15/11/2021 11:08

Mine is a silicone one that stops me dropping it, so I don’t need one with a full screen cover as I don’t drop it anymore due to the grip. I am so used to it that I don’t even know how to hold my phone without a silicone case anymore, any other material (or with no case) it just slides out of my hand.

I do have a cheap thin screen protector to protect from scratches when it’s in my pocket or bag, I don’t know how scratch resistant iPhone screens are though but I don’t want to risk it.

ChicCroissant · 15/11/2021 11:08

I have seen some phones with a surprising amount of stuff down the back of the case, I'd prefer a wrap-around cover with pockets for stuff personally. Not tried a glass screen cover, have had film ones which have worked OK.

My DD has a wrap-around cover and I'd say that's unusual for teens as most just have a case that fits around the back of the phone.

onemouseplace · 15/11/2021 11:14

I cracked my screen twice by dropping my phone (bloody Pokemon Go) but not once since I started using screen protectors, so imo they are useful.

I also use the silicon cases to make my phone grippier to hold.

TurnUpTurnip · 15/11/2021 11:16

Screen protectors definitely work, the only time my phone screen has smashed is when I didn’t have a protector on it, when I have it’s never smashed (yes I drop my phone a lot 😬)

Isitreallyme177 · 15/11/2021 11:16

I have a back cover because I actually like the colour of my phone so why would I want to hide it. I've used Tech21 cases since having an Samsung S6 which went flying down the stairs and didn't break at all.

HarrietsChariot · 15/11/2021 11:18

Rear covers prevent the phone getting damaged. They provide extra grip and support the phone if it is dropped. Putting a screen protector on the front prevents damage and scratches to the glass without preventing you using it.

Those book-type cases look ridiculous too.

Louise5754 · 15/11/2021 11:20

All four of us had new iPhones (not the latest model iPhone 11 for us and the new SE for kids) and cases last December.

Touch wood non have broken and the screens haven't damaged.

Don't go for the fancy personalised ones as they are usually made for the look.

Make sure the edging is raised on the case.

ApolloandDaphne · 15/11/2021 13:05

I've got a rubbery back covering case. I've never broken my phone although I've dropped it a few times.

ChessieFL · 15/11/2021 13:15

I do prefer the cases that wrap over the screen as I think they keep the screen more protected (particularly when the phone is in my bag) but I live the colour of my new phone and don’t want to cover it up, and I haven’t found a wrap style cover that is clear, so I currently have just a clear back cover and a screen protector. Seems OK so far but will have to see long term.

TuftyMarmoset · 15/11/2021 13:47

I have a pela case so it only covers the back and sides and is a slightly rubbery material. It stops the edges of the phone getting chipped and provides a bit of bounce for when I drop my phone. I’ve never needed a screen protector by virtue of keeping my phone and keys apart.
I hate the cases which flip over the front, they are pure middle age.

TuftyMarmoset · 15/11/2021 13:52

I dropped my old phone (iPhone 5c) over the bannister down 2 floors onto a tiled floor and it didn’t have a scratch on it despite not having a screen protector and it had a hard plastic case then as well. I think it’s probably more about how you drop it than the screen protector preventing a cracked screen.

@Bagelsandbrie

Screen protectors are a waste of time. People think they work because if you drop your phone they smash and the phone stays okay but the glass on an iPhone is much, much stronger than a screen protector will ever be so chances are the screen wouldn’t have broken anyway, even without the protector. It’s just a thing to keep people buying them!

If you get a decent case with higher sides / good impact protection that’s the best you can do.

As someone who dropped an iPhone three days after getting it, going to disagree - those screens can break, and better to sacrifice a screen protector than spend a couple of hundred getting your screen fixed.

Likewise, my middle daughter bought a phone (she's working), and dropped it before she put a screen protector on, and it's a £240 lesson she won't forget
