Hi guys,

I know this isn't AIBU but I'm in a bit of a situation and need some quick advice. I'm going away, 20 mins down the road for the night. I'm leaving soon and be back tomorrow morning. My kitten is 6 months told. Is it better to take her with me or leave her alone here? I want to take her with me but I don't want to stress her?

I'd leave her tbh, she'll be fine with essentials

dementedpixie · 13/11/2021 15:59

At that age it might be best to take her with you

RedCarsGoFaster · 13/11/2021 16:01

Well, if you can take her, I would - it's great to get them used to the car and going to new places so if you need her to be cared for away from home then it's not unusual to her.

insecuregoose · 13/11/2021 16:02

Thanks guys! How do I go about it? Do I take her huge litter tray?

Leave her at home. As you're so close, pop back later to check on her.

Scirocco · 13/11/2021 16:07

Has she got experience of being home alone?

If she's ok being home alone for periods of time during the day (eg. when you're at work), then she'll probably be fine so long as she has food, water and a litter tray. If you're fairly close by, you could also pop back later in the evening to put out fresh food for her.

If she's not used to spending time by herself though, then she could find it a bit upsetting.

It depends on your cat and her personality.

Ericaequites · 13/11/2021 16:10

She will be fine alone overnight, especially if you leave treats and a clean little box.

AwkwardPaws27 · 13/11/2021 16:10

Dont take her.

Cats are very attached to their environment (I always use petsitters as catteries are more stressful than being in their own home).
Also, if she is stressed in a new place she may try to escape or hide behind furniture/ the fridge!
Leave adequate food, water and a clean litter tray. She'll be fine.

Etonmessisyum · 13/11/2021 16:10

I’d leave her at home in her own surroundings she’ll be fine for one night long as she has food, water and access to her tray. Could anyone pop in to give her some company

SparklyLeprechaun · 13/11/2021 16:10

I'd leave her at home, it's only for a night. No different than going to work.

Haffiana · 13/11/2021 16:11

Far, far worse to take her. She will be stressed and confused.

ThinWomansBrain · 13/11/2021 16:11

I'd leave her - you wouldn't panic about leaving her for the day.
If she is six months, I assume that she has been with you for a few weeks rather than just arrived in your home?
As long as you leave her food, water, clean litter tray & somewhere snuggly to sleep I wouldn't worry too much.
Do try and get back reasonably early in the morning.

AwkwardPaws27 · 13/11/2021 16:15

You'd essentially need to follow the same advice as moving house if you take her (because she won't know its just for one night) - icatcare.org/advice/moving-house-with-your-cat/

Far better to keep her at home.

TurnUpTurnip · 13/11/2021 16:16

I would leave

MeAndZig · 13/11/2021 16:17

I would take her with you to get her used to the car and another house. We took my kitten to my in-laws house and my cat is so used to their house that we leave him there when we go away and he goes outside as he has been used to it from a young age. He’s also fine with going anywhere in the car.

nordica · 13/11/2021 16:19

Leaving at home is much safer. I read about so many cats going missing while they are away from home and get out.

CatRamsey · 13/11/2021 16:19

She'll be fine home by herself, maybe leave the TV or a radio on so there's some background noise for her. She'll be more stressed if you put her in the car and take her somewhere unfamiliar.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 13/11/2021 16:20

Leave her at home. She'll be stressed if you move her.

FangsForTheMemory · 13/11/2021 16:34

Leave her at home. Dogs travel; cats do not.

Isseywith3witchycats · 13/11/2021 16:38

leave her at home one night at 6 months she will be fine make sure you leave her a big bowl of biscuits and fresh water and a clean litter tray access to somewhere comfy to sleep

RedCarsGoFaster · 13/11/2021 16:43

@FangsForTheMemory it definitely depends on the cat - my 16yo indoor moggy loves exploring new houses when she's gone to friends for a week or two if I'm away, and has even come camping with us in our caravan. She has a lead and a harness (started with the flopping like every cat but soon learned to cope with all that weight 😂).

MartyHart · 13/11/2021 16:43

Leave her at home with some lights on and the radio on quietly.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/11/2021 16:50

She'll be fine. She'll almost certainly just sleep.

Nannewnannew · 13/11/2021 17:19

Agree with pps-leave her at home. There’s a saying that says:

Dogs love faces
Cats prefer places

So I’m pretty sure she’ll be much happier at home.

Roseyleaf · 13/11/2021 17:38

I'd leave her at home, where she will feel more secure.

When I brought both of my cats home for the first time they were terrified of the unfamiliar environment and hid for 24 hours.
