Posting for traffic but please help.
We've had all the house done and had cushioned flooring in the living/dining and hallway because the carpet place told us it would be brilliant with kids and dogs. They didn't warn me you can see all of the floorvoard lines! It's driving me insane! Anyway the flooring was damaged so they are coming to replace it on Wednesday. Is there anything I can put down between now and then to stop me from seeing my floorboards?! It's honestly sending me over the edge, spending all that money to get the house nice and then seeing that everyday 😭. Please send suggestions because Google is no help.

What's cushioned flooring?

IsDaveThere · 13/11/2021 10:02

Isn't there any kind of underlay between the floorboards and the flooring, like there would be with a carpet or laminate?

I presume you're looking for a more complicated answer than "rugs".

Or you could just suffer having to see floorboard outlines for a few days.

@Lockheart

I’m pretty sure OP means she can see floorboards through the new floor - not that she can’t look at them for a few days before it’s replaced.

We have this in the bathroom (if I'm thinking of the same flooring) and you can see the floorboards. Was told underlay doesnt work as it needs solid base under it. Only option is to use ply word or similar and lay that first. Will cost an absolute fortune given timber prices at the moment.

VividGemini · 13/11/2021 10:51

Like a thin hardboard/plywood "underlay" should work right? I grew up in an old house and my family did this to protect the floorboards

SpannerH · 13/11/2021 11:15

Yes I did mean you can see it under the new flooring. It looks so bad

Too late now OP but I assume it's it's karndean type flooring? It so shit these days and will warp, discolour and look crap pretty soon. Maybe have a complete re think if you can afford to and its damaged anyway and move to laminate/wood floor/ tiles etc?

RedCarsGoFaster · 13/11/2021 12:39

Ah, is it thick lino?

The only option is to lay plyboard down. Quite thick stuff usually.

If you put a soft underlay beneath, you'll puncture the lino very easily with heels, dog claws etc.
