To think they should have Xrayed

DD age 6 had an accident on the trampoline in gymnastics on Tuesday.

She hasn't been able to weight bare properly since then, only able to limp on her toes. The pain is specifically her heel.

The pain has got worse and today she was crying, so her dad took her off to A&E for an x-ray ....... her foot has swollen but not extreme, enough though that the nurse commented on it.

Anyways a doctor came and looked at it, said she wont have broken anything as to break a heel you need to fall from a height and said probably a sprain and sent her on her way.

Husband did try to say about an xray but they said no need...

MissLucy has given some very sensible advice.

Don;t be afraid to go back and insist a bit more.

@NotMyCat

I'm surprised they didn't I went to a&e with a painful foot/ankle, no trauma, no swelling or bruising. They said it wouldn't be broken but would x ray anyway Multiple breaks to my foot and ankle, and I was totally mobile on it
I had an ankle sprain x rayed, and told it was ok. 3 days later they called me to go back, as they'd looked at the film again and found a fracture.

I’d take her back tonight.

@Darkstar4855

Yes, the qualified doctor can’t possibly know what they are talking about. Complain to PALS, OP Hmm
Doctors are human, and sometimes wrong about injuries. They should have done an X Ray, presumably couldn't be arsed or didn't want to use the resource though.
AtrociousCircumstance · 12/11/2021 19:20

I’d also take her back tonight.

I would also take her back.

Even after an xray The "qualified doctors" sent our friend away with a "sprain" only to be called the day later to be told, no sorry we looked again and it is broken !!! We were all flabagasted, but mistskes do happen and things do get missed.

Take her back tonight to be sure.

A&E weren’t going to X-ray Ds’s shoulder when he slipped and fell in PE. Doctor wiggled his arm about loads and Ds was in tears.
We were just leaving when Ds said he could feel something moving inside and they decided to do an X-ray but said it was just a precaution.

Obviously he had a broken shoulder. Pain was awful, loads of physio needed and he still has a weakness in that arm over 3 years later.

I broke my heel on a car accident and I was told it's actually a really rare bone to break as it's had to be hit at a really rare angle.. so maybe that's why

olympicsrock · 12/11/2021 22:10

Also a doctor with ED experience. Would not have xrayed if you had attended immediately but agree that worsening pain and non weight bearing is a concern now. I think worth going back if still not right tomorrow. Keep it up and apply an ice pack - will help swelling and pain.
