To go back to being an Executive Assistant

Any AIBU to go for a job that is better paid and less stressful but dead end?

Or should I stick with my modestly paid job but have a career path ahead of me albeit one I'm not sure I want to pursue, but done really know what else to do.

I am finding my job quite stressful at the moment mainly due to a bad manager who has been at the company for decades and despite trying to feedback ideas and implementing new ways of working he just isn't going to budge.

The role I'm in now currently in has a clear "career path" although each stage becomes harder to progress too. I'm somewhere in the middle at the moment, but really not enjoying.

I am contemplating going back to an Executive Assistant role as they pay is usually pretty good (about £50k in my sector) and more than what I'm currently earning. But the workload isn't quite as stressful (as I remember it anyway). But of course there is no obvious career path.

Thanks.

It largely depends on the Sector, I am a band 6 EA in the NHS, and there is an opportunity for me to progress to management in the next year if I want to, I wouldn't consider an EA role to be "dead end" most EA roles pay pretty well!

Unfortunately in my industry EA does tend to be dead end. But they do pay well. Although some people have been able to carve out "Chief of Staff" roles.

I'm a former EA. I can understand the dead end comment, but do feel at the level of earning 50k, the work was really stressful, I was constantly on call and it wasn't worth it.

I don't know what you do now, so EA work might be less stressful, but it can all depend on who you support.
