To ask you what the hell I can do with an actifry other than chips?

We are on our second actifry (the motor on the first one burnt out) even though we use it purely for chips. I just can't think what else to do with it. It's taking up far too much kitchen space and we're hoping to move house soon and trying to reduce how much stuff we have.

Does anyone have one of these things and actually use it for anything apart from chips? Or should it go to the charity shop?

Last night I made meatballs in mine. We use it for sausages, beef stir fry, chilli, chicken stir fry, onion rings, spring rolls, halloumi fries and sometimes chips! Ours came with a recipe book and an app and I joined a Facebook group for actifry recipes. There still loads of stuff I want to try. Can’t imagine giving mine away

I have a ninja dual, so baskets rather than the paddle.
As Florence above, I do loads in mine, cook burgers, stuffed mushroom, roast tomatoes (in a foil container to reduce mess), chicken picces, most things that you use the oven for.

If you have a paddle one, the mainly chips, or you can buy a basket insert to do other things.

Bacon, Sausages, Chicken in dry sauces, jacket potatoes, chips, nuggets, omelettes, love ours, was a god send with no kitchen

evilharpy · 12/11/2021 13:40

Blimey. It would never have occurred to me to do any of this stuff. Mine is a paddle one, I wonder if I can buy a basket separately.

I suppose ours must have had a recipe book but I don't remember seeing it, we might have put it in a safe place never to be seen again. I'll look for a facebook group, never thought of that!

Could I make churros in it?

@evilharpy probably! The people on the Facebook group are nuts - where there’s a will there’s a way is pretty much the motto! I made a chocolate cake in mine recently. It comes out with a hole in the middle obviously but once it’s cut you can’t tell.
If yours is a tefal actifry there is an app. I think you can buy baskets off Amazon to fit. Mine is a paddle one but I’ve never bought a basket.

StewPots · 12/11/2021 15:44

I’ve done “fried” chicken in mine, salt and pepper pork, loads of different veg - when my oven broke it was actually a lifesaver!

Sparklfairy · 12/11/2021 15:46

I do practically all meat in it (without the paddle), garlic mushrooms, fried tomatoes, sometimes "roast" veg like carrots and parsnips.

You may need to experiment with more/less oil. Chops for example can go dry quite quickly but if you dip both sides in oil first they're even better than grilled or fried Smile

Cauliflower!

With a little garlic powder and lemon juice, it's like crack to me.

We have this too its bloody brilliant and I chose it so I could do meat in one and veggie/vegan stuff in the other to make blended family meals easier!!

Try a YouTube search -- all kinds of wild and crazy ideas on there.

I have a basket Ninja one, I do all sorts in mine -- chips and chip-esque potatoes, salmon fillets (it's brilliant at these), pork belly, chicken thighs, egg fried rice, hanger steak.

You can bake pastries in the actifry, just take the paddle out first. I also cook chicken drumsticks in it as well as chicken tikka masala.
Baked potato, home cooked wedges, stir-fry. One day DD even baked cupcakes in the actifry, normal cupcake recipe just take the paddle out first.
I also cook my samosas in there, brush with a little oil then turn and move around the bowl of the actifry once the top side is crispy, same with veggie rolls, burgers. Always remember to remove the paddle first though

evilharpy · 12/11/2021 16:08

Loving these ideas, thanks! I might need to keep it and pare down the ----out of control collection of plastic tubs instead Grin

I have an oven type with trays and use daily. The kids warm croissants up in it in the morning, but I have cooked homemade Katsu chicken, pork chops, sausages, marinated chicken breasts, crispy chicken wings, I also cook picky food like tempura prawns, spring rolls, pigs in blankets etc. I have also made roast potatoes which have been really crispy.

I can basically do anything in there that you could go in a regular oven.
