AIBU or does anyone else think it's completely nuts that my mil just showed my 5 month old his Christmas presents from her? She then took them back again to go away for Christmas.....

Hmmm.....sounds like an over excited MIL to me. Couldn't resist showing him. Hope he wasn't too upset that they had to go away again!

5mo??

I mean… it’s completely nuts to show them, but it’s not like she showed them to a 5yo, which would have been a total disaster IMO

Palegreenstars · 11/11/2021 20:11

I remember my sister wrapping a potato up for my 7 month old and they were THRILLED

He wasn't interested, I just found it a really strange thing to do

Agree that would have been much worse but still think it's a strange thing to do

Yup. Completely bonkers, but no harm done, as long as she doesn't make a habit of it once he starts paying attention.

A relative of mine's favourite toy for the first year or two of her life was a packet of washing up sponges. At the risk of sounding like a Viz Top Tip, no need to fork out for expensive Building Blocks, Duplo or Sticklebricks here, simply give your baby a 50 pence packet of washing up sponges from Home Bargains and watch her have hours of joy and creative play.

But the OP, just an overexcited DGM about a first Christmas. Is this her first grandchild?

Lots of people do things that make no sense. I talk to my cats. I took the rescue cat I'm fostering to be spayed today and I explained to her multiple times that I was very sorry that I was taking her away from the kittens she's nursed for the last 7 weeks, but it had to be done and she'd be back soon and would have no more kittens and would be back to a life of being free to go outside without attracting the attention of nasty tom cats.

I agree lots of people do strange things. No it's not her first grand child
