Bunion reversal ! please help!

Hello Smile Is it possible to reverse a bunion with orthotics and insoles? I’ve got mild bunions on both feet, with my left big toe in particular starting to move underneath the toes beside it . It’s causing a lot of pain and discomfort. I have insoles but given that bunions are genetic, can the insoles actually realign the toe and stop it from moving under ? When I wear them they seem to move my toe back into a straight position, so by wearing these long term can it straighten the joint and realign the toe? Or is there anything better worth trying ? Thank you for any advice, I’m aware of bunion surgery but it sounds very painful with a long recovery Sad

You can't reverse a bunion unfortunately. The only option is surgery. ☹️

I had the surgery to shorten my big toe and remove the bunion in April this year and it was ok! I could weight bear and walk carefully straight after the op with crutches and didn’t have any pain. All healed now, scar almost gone and no bunion.

How did you get the surgery? Did you have to go private? If so, how much was it?

Sorry - ALL THE QUESTIONS!

I’d recommend the Facebook group ‘I survived a bunionectomy’. The consensus always seems to be that surgery is the only Option if you are after correction. If insoles etc alleviate pain then that may be a good alternative solution to surgery. However ot isn’t going to cure the bunions.

I’ve worn orthotics (prescribed by the podiatrist) for many years. My bunions have gradually worsened but the orthotics help me walk properly and make me much more comfortable.

I believe my feet would be much worse without them.

No, it was NHS. I had to wait over a year for the surgery but with Covid I didn’t think that was too bad!

Having my bunion removed and toes realigned on the 23rd. Not looking forward to it but it's gotta be done.
