AIBU to think it is impossible to arrange deliveries for when you are ACTUALLY in?!

I do majority of my shopping online. Due to both my husband and I working full time and having 2 little ones and my DM I care for during the week.

Now I've had my food shopping delivered and pay specifically to choose slots. However I've accepted if for example I order it to be delivered on Saturday at 10am it could arrive anytime from 8am as they don't generally stick to slots. This is fine I can work around this.

However, between meetings in office, caring for my mum and school runs I spend a lot of time in and out of the house and specifically ensure I am there for parcels.

Today I have had two parcels 'delivered'. One a large sack of dog food and one two Christmas gifts (Yankee Candles).

The dog food was set to arrive tomorrow.
I was advised my Yankee Candles were being delivered today by text at 6:30am, I changed my delivery day until tomorrow as I am WFH and DH is home.

Get to my mums to start helping her with daily tasks and notice by 12.00 today both my orders have been delivered Not sure where to however !

I'm scared to death they've just been chucked over the fence!

One was delivered by Yodel and one by royal mail if this matters.

Am I just unlucky?

AIBU or should is it expected to be in all the time when expecting a delivery?

Can't really vote because I can see your issue however all ours are delivered to our bin shed out the front and we get them when we're home. We're in a safe area but might be an idea for you if thats an option and this is a regular issue for you.

If RM can’t deliver then they put a card through and you can arrange re-delivery via their website. It’s usually 48 hours though IME. Yodel are terrible though so I wouldn’t like to guess what their procedure is.

When I returned home at 3.30 both parcels were sat outside my door! I have lovely neighbours however we do live in greater London were parcels among other things go missing regularly! I feel lucky however no idea how to avoid this happening again. I like the suggestion of a safe place however. Not sure where it could be though. I have a porch which I usually leave locked with outdoor letter box and all bin stores are in the rear garden and not accessible x

It's incredibly irritating when you specifically choose a day you know you'll be in and then they just decide to deliver whenever it suits them. It should be an automatic refund if they delivered on a day other than the one agreed and then the package gets stolen, IMO.

Is there a local shop that acts as a delivery point? Usually an option when you’re going through check out, often Spar or other corner shop type places do it although my local dry cleaner is one as well!

I used to always get Hermes delivered to a shop near work because they used to lie about attempting deliveries when I had them to my home, but it’s obviously harder to lie about a shop not being there! Maybe they’re dropping multiple parcels at the shop as well so it’s more profitable for the delivery driver?

Hmm, in answer to your original question, yes you can arrange deliveries for when you're actually in, they just won't come then!! It is intensely irritating though I agree.
