Who's fault is this and what should I do? - Dogs

One of my neighbours fence panels is partly down at the moment, enough for their dog to get through to our garden. They have a female, we have a male, neither have been done (my female dog is done so didn't do the male)
I left the back door open a few hours whilst I was busy cleaning and I think they were outside together!!
Next door apologised and sorted fence when he realised his dog had gotten out.
I asked if she was done and he said no she's in season!!
What now?? Who's fault is this? Worried the dog will now be pregnant.
Any advice welcome!

So your dog never goes off lead?

Lonelydaisy · 10/11/2021 17:31

Well the back door was open for 2 hours and I was upstairs cleaning. I dont usually leave the back door open for so long, literally a one time thing.

There’s an injection (mismate jab) for bitches who may have been tied, it’s called Alizin. Depends if he’s bothered, especially given how much puppies are still going for. Depressing thought.

IfIHadAHeart · 10/11/2021 17:40

What breeds are the dogs? Just mentally picturing what the puppies will look like 😂

LIZS · 10/11/2021 17:42

Their dog , their fence , their responsibility. However you are each responsible for ensuring your dogs do not stray.

EmpressSuiko · 10/11/2021 17:46

Were you hoovering OP? When our male mounted our female she yelped incredibly loudly! I heard it from my bedroom, they were both neutered but the female was only recently done when it happened, luckily neither dogs were hurt but we had to wait quite a while for them to unlock.
Either way this is 100% your neighbours responsibility, they should be ensuring she is in a safe and secure environment and make dogs will smell her from miles away!

EmpressSuiko · 10/11/2021 17:46

Male dogs*

Lonelydaisy · 10/11/2021 17:53

Hoovering for a bit yeah, didn't here anything!
Labrador and boxer, cute puppies!

Let's just hope I don't come back to this thread in 3 months time and say I hear puppies next doorHmm

@Lonelydaisy so is your dog much bigger than the bitch? Its ESSENTIAL that he gets vet advice as a small bitch/big dog mating can result in puppies that are too big for the bitch which is very dangerous for both the bitch and the pups.

Lonelydaisy · 10/11/2021 18:16

She's not smal she's just a bit shorter and leaner

Mantlemoose · 10/11/2021 18:32

Both your problem - wheres your fence?

Lonelydaisy · 10/11/2021 19:02

The opposite side of my garden?

Your neighbour is at fault, he should be keeping a close eye on her and not allowing her to wander off.

Suzi888 · 10/11/2021 19:25

@10yearwarranty

It's his fence, his bitch, his fault.
Maybe the acts what he’s hoping for 🙄

He could do with a set of bitch pants if he's going to let her in the garden unattended. The broken fence may be a bit of a red herring. A bitch in season often becomes Houdini when an owner looks the other way

DoraTheScottishExplorer · 10/11/2021 21:05

I've a boxer who's got quarter lab and can confirm they are adorable puppies. He can be an absolute arsehole now he's an adult.

misses the point of thread and his now hoping for an update of puppy pictures in the future

Winniemarysarah · 11/11/2021 19:28

@WhoWants2Know

How long was the dog out of your sight? They stay tied for quite some time.
They don’t always tie and don’t need to for the female dog to become pregnant.
Bethany7 · 11/11/2021 19:39

Totally not your fault OP. Neighbours responsibility for their female, in season dog.
On a separate note to people saying why wasn't your dog 'done' anyway. That's ridiculous. Years ago it wasn't the norm to get all dogs down as par of the course. It's a big deal and isn't needed for all dogs. We have recently got our dog done only because he showed signs that he needed to have this done. We wouldn't have otherwise. Interestingly, when I took him to the vets on the day of the op he asked why we were having him castrated. When I explained our reasons he replied that he always likes to ask as many people just get it done without understanding why and are just doing it as appears to be the norm these days! There's a lot to be said for leaving the dog be if it doesn't need the op. And yes I'm aware having the op can reduce a type of cancer in dogs. It's just interesting that people feel it should be automatically 'done' these days?!
