To be worried about long Covid?

CalliopeCat · 09/11/2021 23:01

Had covid at the end of Aug and I've not been right since. I looked up the symptoms of long Covid and I've put a mark next to most of them!

I've just had bloods done and they've came back that I'm low in iron and b12 so that could be causing the symptoms too and I'm nervous of talking to the doc about it in case they mark me as a hypochondriac! (I've done 3+ eConsults in the last few weeks -, one for my bloods, one for headaches and one for anxiety)

Sorry not sure what the point of this post is - think I just wanted to write it out!

To be worried about long Covid?

Forgot to say I haven't started treatment for the anemia/b12 yet because I have to wait until the end of next week for a consultation with the practice nurse. There's a big overlap in symptoms I think so do I give it more time?

Thank you!

It took months for my COVID symptoms to go.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 09/11/2021 23:19

My dp is still suffering debilitating long covid symptoms 20 months on from getting sick.
Wouldn't wish this on anyone.

CalliopeCat · 09/11/2021 23:20

Thanks! It's really starting to worry me. Very sick of feeling like pond crud. I've gone from being fit and active to being hardly able to walk to dog 😭

That sounds horrible! I really hope things start to improve over time.

MissisBoote · 09/11/2021 23:24

Absolutely yanbu.

I developed me/CFS after a viral illness that I never recovered from. My life has changed immeasurably.

What's important now is that you rest as much as possible. Look up the spoon theory which explains pacing. Do not, under any circumstances, push through or do more than you think you can.

On better days, still do less than you think your capable of. The more you do this now, the more likely you'll be able to recover.

Getting b12 and your anaemia will also help with the fatigue.

Good luck!

Peanutmnm · 09/11/2021 23:26

Treat the things you can as you go! It may well all clear up with time but for now you can get suppliments for the deficiencies and work on the anxiety (CBT, medication etc).

And rest and be kind to yourself.

AtrociousCircumstance · 09/11/2021 23:28

Sounds hopeful actually - low iron and B12 will be making you feel like absolute crap. Once that’s addressed I’m sure you’ll feel enlivened.

CalliopeCat · 10/11/2021 00:00

Thank you! I've just filled in another eConsult detailing my symptoms. I just want to feel normal again!

I've been anemic during pregnancy and for a condition that's fairly common I was surprised how horrendous I felt. Palpations, daily headaches, feeling very dizzy, breathless and very weak and lethargic could barely lift my arms. A few times I took a funny turn and came out in a cold sweat and thought I'd faint. You say about walking the dog and I was the same, I honestly couldn't even have walked to the local shop with our dog a few weeks ago, not even a short trip round the block. I was fit for nothing. So I wouldn't be so sure it's covid related until you have you're iron and b12 levels sorted. Both can leave you feeling like shit. I was on b12 injections for a few years due to it being low and it gave me a few neurological issues but the low iron was much worse. Some people can function quite well when their hemoglobin is very low and others struggle even when it's borderline so don't get hung up on the numbers either. Hope you're feeling much better soon and that it's easily treatable like anemia. I've been on iron for 8 weeks now, it took a few weeks to notice improvement and only really this week have i felt close to normal so you may have to give it time Flowers

Sosososotired · 10/11/2021 08:27

I had really low iron last winter, and I honestly had all those symptoms. I felt so weak and ill. Hopefully once you start treatment you'll feel better quickly. If not then start thinking about long covid. But I really hope for you that it is just your iron.

CalliopeCat · 10/11/2021 09:40

Thank you! I'd feel happier if I didn't have to wait another week before I get my prescription!

Hi everyone - glad I found this. I am just recovering from covid I'm out of isolation but I have a cough still, breathless so easy, tiredness and I swear my brain is asleep half the time. I'm forgetting everything and I'm not like that. Is this long term or will it ease?

Porcupineintherough · 16/11/2021 21:04

Hi OP
I have long COVID, was one of the first officially diagnosed as such in July 2020. I attended the long COVID clinic at our local hospital bw August 2020 and Feb 21. They ran lots of tests but unfortunately not enough is known for them to treat the symptoms (at least not my symptoms). That said, I am, I would say, 90% better now. Progress was very slow for the first 6months but I then started to improve month on month. My advice would be to try the iron and vit b12 - I have been taking a shit tonne of supplements for he past year so maybe some of them helped. And - if you are not improving in 6weeks or so - push for onward referral. There is more known every day so hopefully soon some treatments will be available.

Porcupineintherough · 16/11/2021 21:06

@Cece92 I'd say that's entirely normal. Most people recover within 4-6 weeks. Just rest plenty, over doing it makes things worse.

Cece92 · 16/11/2021 21:23

@Porcupineintherough thank you 😊 hopefully better in time for Christmas x

Hi All,
So glad i came across this thread. My whole house caught covid a month ago, ranging from mild to no symptoms. I have been suffering with IBS/reflux pain, annoying rather than painful, brain fog, dizzy spells, fatigue, aches and pains. I have bloods booked for Friday, I think my iron is low. Had anyone else suffered these symptoms?
