Antibiotics in pregnancy?

I've currently got the beginnings of a dental trouble. It's a reoccurring issue although I've not had it for a year or so. It's an impacted wisdom tooth and occasionally food can get trapped around it creating an infection in the gum. My head and jaw feel sore and the area is tender which is usually a tell tale sign.

I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant and reluctant to take antibiotics, which is how this is usually treated. As yet the pain isn't too bad and I'm wondering if I stick it out and do lots of salt water/mouthwash rinses it might be ok?

Google seems to say some antibiotics are ok in pregnancy but there's definitely that undertone that you should avoid if possible. Has anyone else had anything like this?

I feel the same way , placed on antibiotics for UTI. Just 5 weeks gone. Really worried about my baby. Wouldn't have yielded if not that I was assured it's the best thing to do. Pls,has any taken antibiotics this early with no harm to the baby???

If your doctor prescribed them then they will have decided it’s safer to take the antibiotics than not. It’s very common to take antibiotics in pregnancy I wouldn’t worry x

You need to seek professional medical advice. I do know that an infected tooth can kill you and often did before antibiotics.

@Mercified I’m glad! I have to see it that way because I questioned everything in pregnancy and got really stressed so it helped when I said to myself that the doctors know more than I do and to trust they’ve done the weighing up for me!

I also learnt the hard way as I had an ear infection in pregnancy, was prescribed antibiotic drops but decided I’d try something over the counter first. Big mistake!! I was in a lot of pain and it was silly of me as if it had spread further I could’ve gotten really ill.

@Peaplant20 sorry to hear about the pain. I hope you later got well.. yes,it's best to trust that the doctors know better.. I had my first scan few days ago. It went well. And urine test showed I have no UTI again. Thanks God I took the antibiotics.

Corsadyl and salt wash and keep sticky and sweet foods to a minimum/ cut them out.

Also look at getting a water pick
I don't find it A-mazing but it's a good complimentary dental hygiene item (I mix water and corsydyl in a 1:1 ratio and find its kept impacting and partially ruptured wisdom teeth under control for both DH and myself
