Sorry I'm a newbie so not sure where to post this. Feel free to direct me further. May I ask what do you buy your adult children and also their spouses for Christmas?

As an adult child my mum will ask what I want and then often buy me something completely different! Or we get money. My brother & family have had annual National Trust membership from them in past years.

We do secret Santa, with my parents and brother and wife and us and then a separate one with my husband's family. It saves a lot of money and a lot of unnecessary presents!

Erictheavocado · 09/11/2021 12:35

We buy a 'joint' gift, usually something for their hone and then an individual gift, usually related to their interests. In the past we have bought good pans, kitchen appliances, rugs, as a couples gift, and books, hobby equipment, clothing as individual gifts.
My mum tries but gives me 'stuff' that she thinks I should like.

Everyone provides a list of what they want. We usually spend about £30-40 on each person.

Labracadabradoodle · 09/11/2021 12:46

Nothing. We go out for a meal instead.

Adult child here.

Both my Mum and OHs Mum buy us separate presents. As adult children, we get more spent on us (eg £50) and the partner gets less (£20).

Remember, an adult child is for life, not just for Christmas.

AuntieMarys · 09/11/2021 12:48

I give adult dcs £250 each, their partners £100 each and I do a few small gifts.

knittingaddict · 09/11/2021 13:21

We do Secret Santa for the adults and individual presents to the children. The Secret Santa has a guide price, but thinking of reducing that further.

knittingaddict · 09/11/2021 13:22

The Secret Santa isn't really secret though. Names are drawn out of a hat and everyone knows who is buying for who.

Isn't that the truth! I have asked them to tell me what they want but they're too polite to ask for anything 'big' my youngest, 24, has asked for a beauty blender! That's it!

My adult nieces get a hamper each with books, makeup, candles, earphones, lush products etc. It's all gifts I know they like and they're easily pleased. One has a boyfriend who this year I'm getting a bottle of whiskey for and the other has a girlfriend who I'm getting a bottle of gin for. I don't know them that well yet so double checked with partners.
My adult nephew gets a hamper with beers, records, books, little gadgets, a tattoo shop gift card, aftershave and pub quiz games. He has a fiance and she's getting a Pret membership, necklace and a little vintage jewellery box. She's my favourite

My adult nephew and his wife aren't really close to us so we often get them joint gifts like tickets somewhere fun or gift certificates or seasonal theater passes, etc. They bought a house last year so we got them a gift certificate for a home goods store and a subscription to a 3d interior design software as they did lots of renovations. This year we'll probably be getting them some housewarming stuff, too.

choli · 10/11/2021 05:58

Once we are 18+ we only buy for my mother, not her for us. Same among all the families I know, no expectation of gifts to adult children from parents.
