Weird dentist checkup?

Not sure I'm IABU or whether this is normal?
I've just been for a checkup which coincided with some toothache and concerns of enamel erosion. My tooth feels 'lumpy' and you can see it's not smooth any more.
Saw a different dentist today. He was by himself, no nurse with him. He said the enamel erosion is normal but couldn't see anything. I can literally see it in the mirror?!
Nothing was inputted to the computer. He took an X-ray of my back teeth and told me to come back in a year.
Is this normal? I don't think I've ever been seen by a dentist with nobody else in the room? No notes put on my records?

Worrying I've been seen by a random passer by 😬

Sounds unusual. I would ring up and ask when you should results from the x-ray. That might give you an idea of whats been logged. You could also ask for the name of the dentist you were seen by.

Maybe he didn't record it as noone else was there to do the recording and will just get someone to do it after.

Get a second opinion. I had a really similar experience recently. I saw a dentist who sort of gazed in my mouth from across the room, told me my teeth were fine and to come back in a year. 2 months later I booked in again as I was having some gum issues and I was told I needed 4 fillings and periodental cleaning and a referral because of the bone loss in my jaw Hmm. I think some dentists just want to get you seen and out the door.

As dental check-ups are not free, it's a bit much, isn't it?

Thank you, that's good advice. I'm definitely not leaving it a year.

I'll make a check up appointment for 6 months and ask to see someone else.

That made me laugh about gazing into my moth from afar, that's exactly how I feel. Non of the usual prodding about. He literally looked at my teeth, tapped the one I said had given me tooth ache and that was it?

The whole experience just felt really 'odd'.
