Does Karma really exist?

FrankWelker · 08/11/2021 16:52

Does it? Someone has really shafted me badly at work, to the point where I cannot believe that she has done this and not offered me any support at all when she saw how broken I was.
Other people keep telling me she will get her comeuppance, but is this really true? Has anyone actually had that happen?

I used to believe in it : I don't anymore!
Most of the selfish horrible people I know are doing ok :(

CounsellorTroi · 08/11/2021 18:20

No.

adrianmolesmole · 08/11/2021 18:27

Karma is the soul's retribution. i.e. you get what's coming to you in the next life, not necessarily this one.

Suspiciousmind20 · 08/11/2021 18:29

I do think that if you deliberately do bad things it has a negative impact on you. If you think about the times you have done the right thing - it feels good. It feels settling. When you do the wrong thing it just doesn’t feel settling if that makes sense? It’s not Karma but i don’t think you can be mean and happy and content at the same time. Not truly. Compassion is good for our wellbeing. So if she’s shafted you then that’s not good for her well-being. If you can forgive her that will be good for your well-being.

HeyFloof · 08/11/2021 18:29

No. Because that would mean that I had done something to deserve the death of my baby. And its taken me a long time to come to terms with the fact that no, I didn't deserve it, and it wasn't karma for something I've done.

Arabelladrinkstea · 08/11/2021 18:29

I believe it exists and have seen it in action many times!

readwhatiactuallysay · 08/11/2021 18:30

Sadly not. Two of our "friends" screwed us over massively for a large sum of money, they are living their best lives now.

And 2 of the kindest most loving people we know have died recently, so no sadly not.

I would like it to be the case but sadly not

CausingMeUpset · 08/11/2021 18:34

I don’t believe in Karma, but I do practise Schadenfreude when someone horrible gets a taste of their own medicine.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 08/11/2021 19:03

@HeyFloof Unmumsnetty hugs to you Flowers

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 08/11/2021 19:13

@KrisAkabusi

Karma doesn't exist. Things just happen. There's no balancing force in the universe to make bad things happen to bad people. Unfortunately.
^This. Unfortunately.
dayswithaY · 08/11/2021 19:19

It doesn't exist but I really, really wish it did.

David Fuller lived his life in freedom carrying out evil acts for years. Yes, he's been caught but he's nearly 70 so what does he care. Don't see any karma here.

Turtles25 · 08/11/2021 19:56

I believe in "What goes around comes around"

LondonBus38 · 08/11/2021 20:04

Hi OP, I'll throw you a line and say yes! yes, comeuppance does happen.

I wrote about horrible experience at work three years ago, from two evil unpleasant cows. Started the only thread I've ever created. Got 30 or so supportive comments which really helped, but I was really cut up by it, long campaign that culminated with real nastiness - as I obviously wouldn't be managed out quickly enough.

I'd worked my arse off, was good at what I did, and tolerated some real incompetence from my two managers but they were vile. I walked away.

Three years later, and a few short term contracts behind me, I have not just landed a great job, I have landed my weirdly specific dream job.

In the meantime something nasty has been uncovered at old workplace and the evil twins are in massive trouble Grin I have been contacted to be a witness for some crappy behaviour but I just can't be bothered, all behind me now.

OK, maybe it's not karma, but they heard of my fantastic news, how senior to them I now am (which will piss them off hugely) in the same week the shit hit the fan for them. Karma, coincidence, whatever, but delicious timing so really feels like a comeuppance.

People that crap will find their shitiness catches up with them. Its hard I know, but don't let the bastard get you down.

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 08/11/2021 20:10

Yes it does. As a pp says, it's as simple as your actions having consequences. However, you have no idea when those consequences will manifest. It can take years.

I know several people who've had life-changing karmic events happen to them, apparently out of the blue. But if you looked at their past just even a little bit, you would see very clearly where those events originated.

Repressed anger has a lot to do with it. Release any anger towards your wrongdoer, it's the best thing you can do for yourself.

Moretodo · 08/11/2021 20:12

I think I believe in karma. Or, I believe every action has a reaction.

I think everytime I think we'll, do the right thing to the best of my ability, be loving etc I add to the peace of the world.

Likewise, if I am shitty, I add to the pain.

I try and leave other people to their own stuff, and focus on my stuff.
This doesn't mean taking shit, it could mean walking away though, rather than fighting.
Everyone is on their journey, doing what they think is best with what they have learned.
This helps me not to be embittered by others actions.

Elieza · 08/11/2021 20:15

I believe in karma. In this life or the next.

When something bad happens it makes me happier to think I don’t need to have negative emotions about some bastard who’s messed me up because I know they’ll get their comeuppance so I don’t pollute my soul with anger or bitterness. Only sometimes I’m not so good and I do get annoyed. But I’m only human!

What goes around comes around.

Thatsthewaytis · 08/11/2021 20:16

No such thing as karma. It’s just something people say or think to make themselves feel better.

Sorry to hear about how you have been treated. Life can be very unfair. There is no rhyme or reason to it. All we can do is deal as best we can with what life throws us and try find happiness in the little things.

Thatsthewaytis · 08/11/2021 20:17

Sorry but that’s absolute claptrap.
DariaMorgendorffer · 08/11/2021 20:17

No.

DrManhattan · 08/11/2021 20:18

Nope. Bad things happen to good people all the time. And vice versa. If only life were like that

Ostagazuzulum · 08/11/2021 20:18

I hope so, there's a few people
Who deserve a good dose of karma this week

Elphame · 08/11/2021 20:18

If it does they'll have to wait til the next life for it to kick in....

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 08/11/2021 20:20

Sorry but that’s absolute claptrap

So is your opinion, cherub.

HeyFloof · 08/11/2021 20:30

Anyone who believes that I deserved to experience the death of my baby son, because of a slight I committed in the universe, should look to their own karmic waves in even thinking it, and what they may "deserve" in the future.

Thatsthewaytis · 08/11/2021 20:33

Now now @ChurchofLatterDayPaints I’m very hurt by that comment. Your handbag might get stolen many years from now and you will clearly see it originated from you saying my opinion is claptrap on this thread. Or would it be more like your favourite mug breaking? How does karma equivalence work? Is it proportional? Or are you expecting good karma from defending the principles of karma?

So many questions 🤣🤣
