To use a booster seat for 6yr old dd for short journeys?

Only occasionally, we drive to school and she's started wanting play dates so I wondered if I picked one of her friends up, dd could go in the booster and her friend could go in the proper seat?

I've been doing lots of googling and can't quite work out if this is legal/okay or not! She's a very short 6yr old.

A booster seat is perfectly safe and legal at 6 years old. High back is preferred, I believe the other ones are being outlawed soon.

My six year old Ds uses a booster, he is slightly above average for height & the head bit of his carseat was digging into his shoulders so not comfortable for him.

From the Gov.uk website:
Manufacturers can now only make booster cushions approved as group 3. This won’t affect any existing booster cushions in group 2 and you’ll still be able to use them.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, I'm presuming I can use this one for her? www.argos.co.uk/product/9169090

I'll need to weigh her but it says from approx 4 years...

OP, you definitely need to weigh her if she’s a small 6 year old. Everyone on MN has massively tall children. My smaller than average DD was nowhere near 22kg at that age, she was between the 15kg lower limit of group 2s and the 18kg upper limit of group 1s.

Ok thanks, i think maybe the seat on that Argos link is being a bit generous with the age range! I will definitely weigh her before buying anything.

It's a 7 min drive at 20mph so I'm quite comfortable to risk assess on that front but definitely want to be legal obviously!

OP, my experience was that DD’s friends were quite a bit bigger than her and their parents were happy for them to go on the backless booster. They all seemed to stop using any seat at all by 8-9. DD only reached the legal height when she was 11, I honestly thought she would turn 12 first Grin.

As long as she reaches the legal minimum weight for the seat, its fine. Just weigh her and check

Ok she's 17.5kg Confused
