Baby lists !

Is this the new thing now as in similar to wedding lists where you make a list of what you want ? I think it's a bit cheeky to be honest. This was never a thing when I was pregnant I was grateful for whatever I got given. I saw one recently where the mum to be asked for absolutely 'NO PINK' items get over yourself dear !!

Been around for ages! Years and years. ‘Very American’ as my mother would say!

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/11/2021 10:30

YABU unless you’re being forced to buy something off it.

Most people have one for their own use and if asked what they might need they share it with whomever’s asking.

If I’m buying a gift I want it to be useful. If they already have 30 babygros and 20 soft toys I don’t want to buy them more. I’d rather get what they need.

Everyone has too much stuff. People buy babies loads of stuff. Most people lack sufficient storage.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/11/2021 10:32

And wtf is wrong with no pink? You don’t seem to like this woman much so don’t bother getting her baby a gift.

If you decide to then get something she’ll appreciate and use, it’s about her and her baby, it’s not about you.

lollipoprainbow · 07/11/2021 10:35

@AnneLovesGilbert it's an acquaintance not a friend so I won't be buying her a present. No need to be so aggressive !!

get over yourself dear!! is pretty aggressive. And you’re here slagging her off.

lollipoprainbow · 07/11/2021 10:42

@AnneLovesGilbert I wasn't slagging her off as you so delightfully word it I was asking if baby lists were a thing. Jesus Hmm

Baby lists are definitely a thing. My oldest is 29. We were asked by friends, family and colleagues if we were doing a list, both when she was born and christened.

PuttingTheLaughterInSlaughter · 07/11/2021 11:03

Baby lists are definitely a thing, we've been asked about them for each of my children and I always ask if the parents to be have a list before I do my gift shopping.

People like to buy things that the recipient actually needs/ wants so a list is so helpful and if I don't know someone's taste particularly well something like "No Pink" being included on the list would be helpful when I'm trying to choose which sleep suits or blankets to get.

Carolinechanning · 07/11/2021 11:06

I like being given lists for gifts for all occasions. The only time I think they're cheeky is when everything on it is really expensive.

EileenGC · 07/11/2021 11:12

I love baby and wedding lists - it means I can get something that the person actually needs and wants, without spending hours trying to decide what to buy. I'm happy, the receiver is happy, and it takes up none of my time.

As long as the list is reasonable and there are a range of prices to choose from. I did get surprised by one couple asking for contributions to their house appliances, divided in bundles of £400 and over. Needless to say, I did not get them half a new fancy TV.

Ginger1982 · 07/11/2021 11:13

I tend to gift things that I appreciated receiving and found useful which, as a first time parent, I had no clue about. I wouldn't have done a baby list though.

Get over yourself
She was probably asked for a list. And she probably doesn't want any pink clothes as she won't dress her baby in them. Nothing wrong with that.

cowburp · 07/11/2021 11:17

Agree
Cuntness · 07/11/2021 11:17

You're being aggressive, not @AnneLovesGilbert!

And am I right in thinking that this isn't even your friend and you've not actually been sent this list to buy from? This has no impact on you yet you're offended enough to start a thread about it? Okay.

I wouldn't put together a list myself, but it's better than getting a lot of things that you just don't use. It's just a waste, otherwise. I'd also rather be sent a list than buy crap for the sake of it.

lollipoprainbow · 07/11/2021 11:29

@cowburp ooh let's all side with @AnneLovesGilbert it really is like the school playground on here sometimes

To be honest I could also see myself specifying 'no pink' on a baby list even though I would dress a girl in pink. Elderly relatives and friends I wouldn't send a list too, will automatically default to pink so there will be plenty of pink clothes anyway.

I have nothing against pink but I can see this woman trying to avoid the entire wardrobe being pink - she'll get some of those regardless, when people hear it's a girl.

Why, cos people don’t agree with you?

Sirzy · 07/11/2021 11:40

I would much rather have a list or ask someone what they wanted than them end up with a load of the same thing or things that won’t be used

lollipoprainbow · 07/11/2021 11:42

Thanks to all the sensible responses explaining why people have baby lists.

I've never heard of a baby list!

I'm agreeing with the comment so that you know it's not just one person's view of your comment. I'm not "siding" with anyone thanks I have my own mind.

AnCailleachOiche · 07/11/2021 13:10

Yes it's very cheeky. I wouldn't dream of asking anybody else to buy baby equipment for me and I certainly wouldn't put down silly commands like NO PINK. Eldest dd had only pink Grin
