To wonder who pays 13k for a bed??

A very ordinary looking divan bed, no head board?

I also suspect such folk are not in furniture village!!

Dp said he'd want it to drive him to work for that money.

I know you pay for quality and this had pure wool filllling and it was very comfortable but I'm pretty sure you can get an amazing mattress for a tenth of the cost.

Even if I won the lottery I don't think I could pay that much money, or am I missing something here?

@CouldIhaveaword

If I had that kind of money then I would rather spend it on a bed than on handbags, shoes, car or even an expensive tv or phone.

Different priorities I guess.

If you had that sort of money, you would presumably be able to afford the bed AND the bags, shoes, tv etc

People with a £13k bed budget are unlikely to be scrimping on other aspects of life..!

@Cuck00soup

What's even more crazy is people paying thousands for a mattress they haven't actually tried in store.

And no, your bed being uncomfortable a manufacturing fault. So no, it's nor covered by your guarantee no matter how aggressive you are to sales or customer service assistants. Oh and no, your bank won't chargeback either. Even if it is Coutts. Bitter ex Customerservice service assistant

Who would do that? We tried vi spring, haastens and savoir, who would want to be uncomfortable. Madness at that level.
Allsorts1 · 07/11/2021 13:22

It’s silly - £2.5k gets you the best mattress you can buy for a king size. This would be handmade, natural fabrics. Anything on top of that is things like, silk and cashmere in the mattress (pointless), or they up the spring count by doing lots of layers of springs - which is also pointless and doesn’t add any comfort.

But there is a market for it and I guess some people want to buy the bed that has cashmere and feels like luxury Confused

But even if I wouldn’t blink to spend 13k on a maytress I still wouldn’t do so because it’s a waste of money when you can get a brilliant one for 1/10th. I would rather spend the difference on something people actually see and is an added value, like a silk brocade cover or a handmade bespoke 4 poster bed frame Grin or an antique dining table - so many lovely things could be purchased with the 10.5k saving!

PooWillyNameChange · 07/11/2021 13:25

We tried a vispring in the bed shop for £10k (mattress only) and it was lovely, but husband hated it - it was well above budget, was just curious! In the end went for £3k all in for king sized bed with 6ft headboard and a Hypnos mattress and thought we were dead spendy! Our last couple of beds were under £800 each including mattress.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/11/2021 13:27

If I could guarantee perfect back support and contribution to pain/ache relief, as an osteoporosis sufferer with two wedged vertebrae at 61, yes I would. However, our current bed which is very firm and cost about £900in total as it was in stock and the intention was to use it and transfer to the guest room, has been very very good. 8 years in it is sagging a bit at the edges and am watching this thread with interest.

PooWillyNameChange · 07/11/2021 13:28

I also agree if I had £10k for a bed I wouldn't go to furniture village...!!

In your opinion, as the owner of mattresses in both price ranges over the years i beg to differ.
antsinyourpanta · 07/11/2021 13:29

I always think that there must be a ceiling price for everything ....like after a certain point there can't be anythi g "extra" to add IYSWIM.
Its like when people pay, for example 2k per night for a hotel room. Is it ten times better than a £200 room? Once you've got the best location, bed, bedding, toiletries, food, wine etc how much more can you add?

BigYellowHat · 07/11/2021 13:44

We just spent £2400 on our mattress and frame. Would have been closer to £3k but there was an offer on 😬 It’s a very comfy bed but even so, how much more comfy would a £13k bed be? I’m genuinely curious!

LoisWooookersonsLastNerve · 07/11/2021 13:45

Maybe not 13k but I absolutely hate my bed. It was 1k so not cheap but it's like sleeping on concrete. I wake up in the morning feeling like I've been beaten up. As soon as I can afford to, I'm getting rid of it. Angry

LoisWooookersonsLastNerve · 07/11/2021 13:46

Oh, expensive pillows are a pair of eejits tooSad They don't like staying in shape.

dottiedodah · 07/11/2021 13:54

We paid £1800 for a bed! DH thinks its too "hot" because it has a pillow top mattress ,however I love it! Remember watching one of those 4 in a bed shows where they test each others B and Bs .One marked down the bed as too hard ,bloody thing was 20k or something!

Unhomme · 07/11/2021 13:58

Yabu for not linking to such bed...

Porcupineintherough · 07/11/2021 14:14

13k no but our bedframe cost 2k 20 years ago (will last a lifetime) and we are on our second 2k mattress. We spend 1/3 of our lives in bed and I want to be comfortable there so it's an item where I'm happy to spend a large amount of money (relative to our incomes).

dottiedodah · 07/11/2021 14:18

antsinyourpanta I think 2k sort of range for a hotel room simply seems to imply that they are looking for a certain sort of clientele! So wont be appealing to any of the bargain/premier inn people !(Of which Im on of!)I wonder if that includes any Breakfast?

ConsuelaHammock · 07/11/2021 14:53

Really rich people!? People with more money than sense. Or heaven forbid influencers( boak ) who will post about it on SM .

Yourdeadtome · 07/11/2021 16:50

I would

ftw163532 · 07/11/2021 16:59

I thought hastens mattresses cost about ten times that, so £13k almost sounds like a bargain.

If you had that level of cash to spare you might as well really.

thepeopleversuswork · 07/11/2021 17:08

If you were a multi-millionaire that would be pocket change.

Everyone has different budgets: it’s not rocket science.

No doubt there are things you have spent money on which would be prohibitive for others.

I don’t really understand these threads… it’s fairly obvious that some people can afford to spend more than others.

DuesToTheDirt · 07/11/2021 17:09

I saw a programme ages ago on the house of somebody mega rich. The door hinges were gold! What a bloody waste of money. But I guess if you are mega rich you want to show it off by splashing the cash on ridiculous things.

Ozanj · 07/11/2021 17:12

A lot of beds aimed at the disabled or terminally ill are a minimum of 10k. The bed my aunt spent most of the last decade of her life cost £12k third hand. So until you give us further info we can’t possibly say if it’s unreasonable or not.

ChequerBoard · 07/11/2021 17:25

I have one but I didn't pay that for it.

It's a ViSpring super-king divan that we bought from And So to Bed at the end of a clearance sale for 80% off.

So still an expensive bed but OMG it is like sleeping on a cloud of comfort. Worth every penny and when it dies I will buy another just like it.

Mhingmighty · 07/11/2021 21:43

We paid just under £13k for bed but the mattress is Vispring and the whole thing is genuinely amazing.
