Sister and MMR Vaccine

I know this can be a controversial subject but I’m really just looking to see what other people’s opinions would be. I've posted on the parenting boards but they are quite and I’d love to get as many responses as possible so I can gauge some sort of consensus.

My sisters never got my 6 year old nephew vaccinated against MMR. Ive recently had a baby and know that under 1s are at highest risk of complications if they catch one of these diseases.

I also know numbers are very low but I worry about it often as we see my sister and her children regularly.

This is not a debate about whether to vaccinate or not, purely just what would you do in this situation. I will be vaccinating my boy when he reaches 1. But what are peoples opinions on this? Am I being dramatic worrying about it? Should I just try to put at the back of my mind?

Thank you for any responses. I know this subject is tricky but I'm worrying about it often so please be kind.

You have no way of knowing if other children or adults are vaccinated or not. You only know because he’s family. The babies who were around during the peak of the mmr scandal will be adults by now, some may have had catch up vaccines some may not. You’ll drive yourself round the twist worrying so my advice is just enjoy your baby, of course be mindful of symptoms but don’t let it become a source of anxiety

As the MMR vaccine was only introduced in 1988 anyone over the age of 33 will not have had it. Given it was new at the time there is a good chance anyone over 30 hasn't had it. As pp say you cannot tell the vaccination status of anyone you baby might come into contact with so best not to worry about it. Make sure you know the signs of the common childhood illnesses and enjoy your baby!

Yes, but there's a good chance that anyone who is over the age of 33 had the illnesses, so will be immune that way. Rubella and Measles (don't know about mumps) also had vaccines available before 1988, it was only the triple jab became available then.

You’re not being dramatic but I don’t think it’s common enough that you need to be panicking. You say you’ve decided to immunise your child so don’t worry any more about it.
