To not buy DS6 a “switch”

I had thought he was a bit too young for one, and have been trying to keep computers etc to a minimum. He’s allowed 10 minutes a few times a week on a console (not sure which type) at after school club, and occasionally plays games on my kindle.

He’s not actually asked for a switch, but I noticed that most of his friends have one, or are getting one for Christmas. But I still feel that he’s a bit too young; but at the same time I don’t want him being the poor kid who misses out.

Aibu to not buy him one, and maybe get one in a couple of years

Wait till he asks for one and then you can set the limits and it’s great as they get older for ensuring they do chores/homework etc

Both my boys had the equivalent around 7/8 both into gaming but had limits but as they got older 13/14 ds2 lost interest but ds1 is still
Into gaming bit on his PC he uses it for coding etc too he’s 20 and at uni now
DD 12 never had a console but since 11 a phone that she’s constantly FaceTiming on so we use that for ensuring she does what needs to be done
It’s okay not to be a gaming family but used in moderation and when he actually asks it can be a positive thing

This must depend on area, as I don't think any of my 6 year Old's friends have any sort of console. I personally think they have many years of staring at screens ahead of them and it's better to wait as long as you can.

Wait until he asks for one, ds6 has one and goes through stages of using it, sometimes will go long periods of not, and he will stop playing whenever asked to, he only plays age appropriate games. His brother is less interested in gaming. His dad bought it for him and if it was my choice I wouldn't have got one, they don't have any other gaming console while with me which is the majority of the time.
