...before you put it in the recycling bin, it won't get recycled?

If you don't rinse out cans, containers, bottles etc. they will be rejected and go into landfill.

Not enough emphasis is placed on this in recycling campaigns, and in my experience, the majority of people just don't realise this.

You should read your recycling card, dropped off on an annual basis.
I usually quickly rinse out tins, and bottles and remove the labels .
Pizza boxes are ok if they are all just card with no plastic, they also need to be clean and no food over them. There used to be an exclusion on corrugated cardboard so I don't recycle that although this varies from different recycling companies.

Rinsing each item wastes so much water.

I just tuck recycling into dishwasher.

The key is to minimize what you buy in the first place. Look for alternatives.

Today I had my hand on some eye makeup remover pads in a plastic pot. Really wanted it. But I can use oils I already own on a bit of loo roll instead. It won't kill me and it's one less pot for the bin. If billions of us did that each day...
