To think police should separate neighbours?

Been out again today, third time this week fighting locking each other out and the poor kids are crying from all the shouting. I can't understand why they keep coming out and not separating them? Surely they have had social services referral.

Are you reporting concerns to the police and social care?

Bingbong21 · 05/11/2021 14:45

They will be referring to social services but social services tend to leave it until its really grim to intervene.

I would make an effort to inform them of anything iffy at times the police aren't involved so it builds a fuller picture.

Those poor children.

I've contacted social services today as I couldn't believe it. I work from home and it's just constant arguing all the time I'm sick of it. You would of thought that social services would have been round to see them by now though.

What can they do though, unless one is (or both are) charged with an offence and given bail conditions?

ArtfulScreamer · 05/11/2021 15:10

You want the police to have the powers to decide who an adult can or can't have a relationship with Confused
I get the situation isn't ideal and is toxic for the kids and a pain in the arse for you but they are still adults with freedom of choice. For a domestic violence prevention notice there has to be evidence of domestic violence and whilst shouting and locking out may indicate domestic issues it certainly doesn't evidence domestic violence. Would you accept the police controlling your choices in life however wrong others may think them to be.

creamcrackerdmum · 05/11/2021 15:14

No I mean take them away to calm down to a family members etc. Why do they need three police cars and a van to attend a domestic then just leave them in the same situation to carry on. Poor kids are upset it makes no sense.

And yet we've had 3 or 4 thread long posts about children who have been killed by toxic parents and the resounding comments where "why didn't people report?" "Why didn't the police step in?" Where were social workers?"
NoDecentHandlesLeft · 05/11/2021 15:34

Police probably can't remove anybody from their own home unless an offence has been committed.
Social Services most likely have been informed. Why it's taking them so long to come out, I don't know.

KevinTheKoala · 05/11/2021 15:58

I'm guessing that social services have a huge amount of cases and if police have reported but said that the children seem OK and nobody else has ever expressed concerns then this family is probably not a priority case - but every time it gets reported it will be pushed further up. I also think social services don't always follow up every call with the family.

julieca · 05/11/2021 16:10

Thére is a chasm between shit parenting and everyone would agree, and abusive and kids should be taken away if the parents cant sort themselves out.

Because police can't just take people away if they're not arresting them!
Lunariagal · 05/11/2021 16:56

But in all honesty, how would you know if social services had been?

Cherrysoup · 05/11/2021 17:35

Odd. My local force removes one of the couple at least overnight, but if they’re both on the tenancy/mortgage, you can’t just merrily kick one out on a permanent.

Well I'd hope the fuck not! Breach of the peace is a crime, if they are not even reaching that threshold what can the police do?
