To be completely at the end of my tether with trapped nerve

I trapped A nerve in my neck 5 weeks ago by twisting suddenly - the pain is excruciating. The shooting, burning, tingling, numb pain up and down my arm is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I haven’t slept for weeks.
The GP has been no help - prescribed codeine and tramadol but they don’t touch it. Referred for MRI but waiting list is huge.
I’ve paid hundreds of pounds on chiropractors and osteopaths.
Will this eventually go away?
Does anyone have any tips or can suggest anything that may help please? Thanks

I've been in the exact situation with the same injury and same meds and experience. I was recommended the Bowen Technique. It fixed me, thank God. You could see if there is a practitioner in your area. www.thebowentechnique.com/practitioners/find-a-practitioner/ It was cheap and I had 5 sessions. It was an absolute lifesaver.
Please be very careful with Tramadol. If you have the money, CBD oil may help the pain. This is my first post here but I wanted to reply to you. Good luck.

Painkillers will only ease the pain, ask.the gp about nerve medication I was prescribed Neurostil with pain medication for nerve damage in my sinuses.
A hot bath, hot water bottle or ice water will hopefully help.

@Pascal80 Welcome to the club. 😀

To add a private mri will cost around 200.

OP -Forgot to say - Amitriptyline is sometimes prescribed by the GP (in a tiny dose nightly before bed - not the anti-depressant dose) for severe nerve pain. It works very well for some people - not everyone.

@EmeraldShamrock Thank you :)

I have recently suffered nerve pain and the gp just kept prescribing anti-inflammatories and morphine which did nothing. I eventually was put on pregabalin which takes a while to start taking effect by which time I went in for an operation and didn’t need it any more. GP’s seem reluctant to prescribe it for some reason. Ask for pregabalin. I hope you can get some relief, nerve pain is just awful.

esloquehay · 04/11/2021 22:57

@steppingcarefully, GPs are reluctant to prescribe Pregablin as it is highly addictive and alters perception.

I’d stop paying for physio & osteopathy. I believe they can be fantastic but if they are not working for you, use that money towards a private investigation involving scans & medical treatment. I’m in the middle of this now, and the physio I was doing did me more harm than good :(

EnigmaCat · 04/11/2021 23:51

These guys seem legit, I've used exercises recommended by them for neck pain and sciatica. You'll have to work out which exercise you need.

Careful with Pregabalin, it includes dementia as a side effect. A friend of mine used it for spinal pain, looked and sounded drunk, didn't realise how affected she was and her driving became scary...

Minkribs · 05/11/2021 12:15

Thank you so much everyone. I might look into a private mri. I’m willing to do anything to get some relief!

I've been suffering from a prolapsed disc and my osteo offered to refer me for a private MRI which would have cost around £200 I think. I've gone through Bupa now though.

Amitriptyline helped me quite a lot, but naproxen/codeine didn't even take the edge off.
