Medicine is way too big for people to know lots about each speciality. Life threatening things (eg heart, lung, bowel stuff) probably gets more coverage. Sometimes individual doctors will know more about certain areas because of spending more time in that speciality when rotating around. For some areas diagnosis and treatment has changed over that past 10-20years, so some docs may not be as up to date for certain specific areas (as they wouldn’t have been covered in their rotations or post grad exams at the time).
