Anyone else work 7 days a week? Can’t take anymore

I have posted before but things haven’t changed since I spoke to them, so please don’t be frustrated.
I have been in my job for 3 months, and my last full day off was 12th October. My next day off will be 13th November.

I have had a meeting with my manager and I was told that they are very short-staffed, and that they are not able to give me a full day off until there are new staff members.
This is not my fault or problem, other staff are given days off each week.

It’s not even about me saying yes to extra work, they put it on the rota and even if I say I’m not available, they say they have nobody else and it’s within my availability.

It limits the time I have with my partner and family. I earn a decent amount (for me), £1700+ net each 4 weeks, but I do over 50 hours a week.

I don’t see an option apart from leaving. However I quit my previous job after only 2 months as it was night shifts and I struggled with them. So I feel like I cannot quit after only 4 months (which it will be once I work my notice). Not sure where to go from herr

There will be other care agencies or care homes needing staff start applying for job there!

Maverickess · 05/11/2021 08:25

The government have just launched 'Made to care' campaign that's designed to attract people to the sector. It includes a TV ad campaign starting at the end of this month.
Can't see it being wildly successful until they address stuff like this going on and the other issues with conditions and pay in the industry, because people might start, but will they stay when they're treated like this and paid minimum wage for the privilege?

Good luck OP. It sounds like you're doing the right saying you need Tuesdays off. I work somewhere that sounds very similar.

Stick to the Tuesdays off whatever they say (and I know it's hard as they'll try to guilt you into working).

Krisjongun1 · 05/11/2021 09:56

They’ve accepted my Tuesday off!

Honestly its amazing what you can get away with if you dont care if your fired.

Walk in their and politely and calmly tell them you are reducing your hours.

They will say we will think about it.

Say no. Its not negotiable. I am reducing my hours. If this doesnt work for you from immediate effect then I am happy to hand my notice in from immediate effect.

LemonSwan · 05/11/2021 11:28

I assume its care work op? Apologise haven't read the full thread.

I had a job like this so sympathies. Get another one as soon an you can.

RandomMess · 05/11/2021 11:46

I would also put in a 2nd other day off every other week. Say alternate Mondays or Wednesdays so you get a proper 2 day break. Again put it in writing and clearly give the dates for the next 6 weeks that you have that day off too.

You need to look after yourself.

goosebumps · 05/11/2021 12:15

Yay - that's good news about the Tuesdays 😁

Q123R · 05/11/2021 15:19

That's great!
