A nightclub frequented by friends have posted a statement on Facebook about drink spiking. Or, as the call it... "The so called spate of drink spiking"

They state:

"It is in your own hands to protect yourself and others."

"It is impossible to search every customer entering the club. It is also something that many customers would find abhorrent."

"We would ask you to be aware of the amount of alcohol you consume during the night, drinking to excess is not something we condone"

"Always take into consideration the strength of the drink and moderate the number of drinks you have."

"You are at the club to have a good time, you can't do this if you are blind drunk."

Is it me, or is this complete and utter victim blaming?

The club have stated that you should speak to staff if you're concerned. Other clubs I've seen have stated they have water and phone chargers always available, anti spike bottle stoppers, drinks covers, drink spike tests, promote 'Ask Angela' etc.

YANBU - The club should do more to protect customers against drink spiking, and care for those who suspect they have been spiked. And most importantly... not victim blame!
YABU - Clubbers should look after themselves and their friends and shouldn't get so drunk anyway.

What's drinking alcohol got to do with being spiked?

To me it sounds like they're trying to say that it's not drink spiking that's a problem it's drinking too much. That might also be a problem but has absolutely nothing to do with drink spiking and so is absolutely irrelevant here. They're mixing up the two issues to victim blame and so take no responsibility.

If they have all those measures in place re: bottle covers etc what more can they do? There is an element of taking some responsibility yourself by using whats available and preventing opportunity for someone to spike your drink i don't think thats victim blaming its common sense as is reminding anyone that getting so drunk you are not aware of stuff around you is not the best idea for anyone male or female. I think all clubs should have precautions in place and a safe area for anyone who feels unwell through spiking, drink or drugs so they can remain safe until they can be taken home by friends, family, or safe transport.
If this particular club is not taking precautions at all then that is very poor when things are readily available and yes not doing anything at all and simply saying don't get drunk is victim blaming not sensible advice.

Drink spiking is a different crime.

This list is basic common sense that clubs and bars need to put up, since adults still need to be told to be responsible for their own actions and not think their lack of self control should be everyone else's problem.

I agree with the list but not as a deterrent or solution to drink spiking.

The club should put up rules for that separately.
