AIBU to expect full refund when seller posted me the wrong item?

Just having a disagreement with someone on Facebook marketplace and wondering if I am being unreasonable or is she?
So seller was advertising something -a part for a certain brand is saddle and when I asked she said she was happy to post if I covered postage. She wanted a bank transfer so I paid with a bit extra to round it up.
So item £8 and postage was £3.85 so I sent her £13.
It came today and it's not the same brand of saddle part. So it doesn't fit mine and to my thinking...isn't what I paid for.
So I contacted her and she said she was mistaken about the brand. I asked for a refund and I'll post back so she says she will only refund when she gets the item back safely, but then she says she will only refund the £8 item price??
So I pointed out it's going to cost me £3.85 to send it back so I think it's only fair I get a full refund of £13 and we both lost one lot of postage each for her mistake.
She then says she's being fair agreeing to an £8 refund as she didn't want to post in the first place.
Something which she didn't mention before at all.
I said I don't think it's fair I end up £8.85 out of pocket for her mistake and her morals are obviously different to mine.
She's now replied saying I'm wrong to question her morals and she will refund £13 once item is back with her.
I'm now thinking I don't trust her to refund if I send it back....
Thoughts?

I know it's the principle, but it's £13. Either post it back and hope that she'll actually refund you, or sell it on.

TheChip · 03/11/2021 20:19

Yes she should refund.
Try and sell it yourself for £13 if you don't trust that you will get the money.

Viviennemary · 03/11/2021 20:21

I don't think you've got a lot of come back on her if you paid through bank transfer although you are 100% in the right as it was her mistake. I wouldn't trust her either. Don't think I would throw any more money after this item. Is there any chance you can sell it on.

AchyFlower · 03/11/2021 20:23

Why did you round it up?!

Anyway I think you're right, she can pay for the return postage. Or the return postage minus the £1.15 extra you randomly sent her for no reason.

lonelylou09 · 03/11/2021 20:35

I doubt very much id be able to sell it on as it's for a really old rubbish brand of saddle that no one would want. I had to Google it to find out what it even was.
Yes I know it's only £13 but it was £13 I paid expecting to get what I was buying ..not something unusable.
I rounded it up as I thought that would cover the cost of packaging also.

She’s a CF blaming her mistake on you. There is no way she is going to refund you the £13.

Report her to FBMP and don’t return the item until you hear from them.

Theunamedcat · 03/11/2021 21:07

How did you pay?

BrightYellowDaffodil · 03/11/2021 21:17

YANBU. The contract of sale between you, however informal, was for item X at £price plus £postage. Offer, acceptance, consideration. She hasn't fulfilled her part of the contract as she hasn't sent item X.

However. Whilst I fully accept that £13 is a LOT of money to some people, if you can afford to write it off, be prepared to. By all means send some strongly worded messages, report to FB etc etc, but don't cause yourself more than £13-worth of stress over a principle that, in all honesty, you may not win. Decide now what steps you're willing to try before walking away and chalking it up to experience.

TowandaForever · 03/11/2021 21:27

I wouldn't expect to pay postage on an incorrect item sent to me. She posts the wrong thing she should refund all your costs for her error.

MusingOnStarlight · 03/11/2021 21:34

@Theunamedcat

How did you pay?
Literally says it in the OP
KangarooSally · 03/11/2021 23:44

This is why you always pay by PayPal. Paying by bank transfer leaves you with no recourse, it's a gamble. If it were me I would try to sell it to recoup some of the money and give the seller a bad marketplace rating, then move on. Otherwise you'll be losing an additional 3.85 because I doubt the seller will refund once received

She won’t be refunding you then. Contact FBMP, but you’ve lost your money by the sounds of it.
