Masks are coming back and I feel like an idiot!

As the title, I can’t wear one as I can’t breath, they are really coming back into force where I live and I do tend to overthink things and I feel like a prat!

I had to go hospital recently and everyone, I mean everyone had a mask apart from me and I just look stupid! To look at me and not know me, I look young, fit and healthy, which makes it worst!

Am I doing overthinking this? Do you think people think I’m some sort of Covid rebel?

"Jesus, why?! Just wear a bloody real one, like the rest of us have to. Nobody actually likes wearing them. Claiming you can't breathe whilst wearing one (of course you can) doesn't make you exempt."

Yes it does. You don't have to like it but If she feels she is unable to breathe and the mask causes her distress then she is exempt.

If you can't breathe wearing one, then get a lanyard and hopefully people won't judge.
You might want to try a "singing mask" - google it - they have more space around the mouth and nose, and you might find them easier to wear.

so in other words as useful as a chocolates teapot

This is a poor use of the metaphor!

It's as useful as a chocolate teapot for someone who is allergic to tea, in a world where non-teapot ownership is a a shameful disgrace Grin

how utterly stupid

(But I do understand metaphors and how to write English.)

Wear one. There have been experiments done and they do not affect your Oxygen stats - you can breathe. This is a mental hurdle to overcome.

Try a few different brands/ the guards that move the fabric away from your mouth but still covering and touching your skin round the edges.

They protect others too, you really are morally duty bound to try.

Thank you, you're absolutely right.

No. We all felt like that at first, we're not all exempt because we say we are.

I totally agree. I imagine hardly anyone likes wearing them or doesn’t feel they breathe easier without one. There doesn’t seem to be the same lack of compliance in most other European countries so what is it about the UK that so many people feel they are a special case and are exempt? I think there are probably very few conditions that mean you actually cannot wear a mask.

I live in the US and work at an events facility where masks are required and we have to enforce it for anyone age 2 and older. There is no such thing as being "exempt" in this situation, and I have never had anyone trying to claim such. None of us enjoys wearing them, it's just something we have to do to be able to have some sort of normalcy.
