Changing Rooms or lack of.

I've been told by a friend who works in retail, that both Sainsburys and Tesco have no intention of re-opening their changing rooms.

Apparently they feel that customers have managed for nearly two years buying clothes and then having to return them, so no need for changing rooms after all.

What do you think?

I agree. Have never used a changing room in my life. I buy, try on at home then return as required.

TurnUpTurnip · 01/11/2021 18:22

My local Tesco’s with clothes has never had a changing room 🤷‍♀️

Cheerbear23 · 01/11/2021 18:26

Sainsbury’s near me have reopened their changing rooms. What’s the reason behind not opening them again, shop lifters?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/11/2021 18:27

Supermarket I've never been that bothered about changing rooms. Only a few stores have them anyway. I can think of one time I've used one... and it was the massive one with a whole floor of clothes.

Department and clothing stores that you travel to are different.

thecatsthecats · 01/11/2021 18:30

It won't phase me, I never use changing rooms.

I always feel sweaty and gross changing in and out of new clothes, and the different lighting/mirror to home means clothes look different at home, plus different shoe options etc.

I've developed a strong knack for what will/won't suit me, and I never have a problem taking the odd item back.

It’s a massive pain if you really need something only to get home and it doesn’t fit. If you can only afford one pair of trousers you could be buying and returning x5 before fine one fits rather turns quick trip to changing room. Probably saves them money from shoplifting though

TakeYourFinalPosition · 01/11/2021 18:36

They’ve been open again for ages in both of my local ones.

Cosyblankets · 01/11/2021 18:41

Never use them
Take home and try on

Lancrelady80 · 01/11/2021 19:54

Supermarkets with clothes in are 25mins away from us. So no changing rooms means instead of me buying quite a lot of clothing from them whenever we have happened to be in town, I've only bought things like socks where you can't be messed about with sizing / cut / style. It's too much hassle to have to make a special journey to return things /try alternate things, especially with all the fuel costs.

Whereismumhiding3 · 01/11/2021 20:03

I think they'll find sakes go down and costs of returns etc go up.

I and DCs like to try on clothes as the fit isn't always the same. We're less likely to buy clothes in passing eg a nice looking dress and more likely to stick to what we know suits/ fits

I think an experienced shop lifter can shop lift as easily from clothing aisle as they can in changing rooms so wouldn't know if this would make a huge difference ? But I'm not retail worker so that's just a guess

TabithaTiger · 01/11/2021 20:27

Sainsbury's replied to a comment on their Facebook page saying that they have no plans to reopen changing rooms because they've found 'customers like trying things on at home' ...well, that's because they've not had any choice! It really annoys me. I won't buy things like jeans if I can't try them on as I want to try different styles and sizes.

Obecalp · 01/11/2021 20:35

I would rather try on at the store and not buy it, than take it home and have to return it.

Bythemillpond · 01/11/2021 20:46

My only purchases that I don’t try on are certain t Shirts from Primark
Otherwise I don’t buy anything that I haven’t tried on in the store.
A. If I bought stuff that didn’t fit, didn’t look good then even if it is in the local supermarket I will never return it as I don’t go regularly enough and it is a hassle changing things or getting money back or just remembering to actually take the stuff back

And
B. I don’t have the money to buy multiple sizes and outfits just so I can take them home and try on.

Probably won’t ever buy any clothes in Tesco again.

I have tried the clothes on in store to see if something fits in recent months as the changing room was closed.

Cofifeefee · 01/11/2021 20:49

It wouldn't bother me. I do most of my shopping online and prefer to try on at home and return if needs be.

Voice0fReason · 01/11/2021 21:56

My local Tescos have permanently closed theirs.

It is the reason why I didn't buy some trousers that I was looking at.
