How often do you wash your ears?

I had a thought last night after a second glass of wine that ears are often neglected in the washing process. I have long hair so wash behind and in the outer bits of my ears when I wash my hair. I don't wash them every day. So, AIBU to ask how often do you wash behind and in your ears?

They get washed when I wash my hair. So twice a week. Seems fine to me. No-one's commented that they smell. Ears aren't known for being a sweaty part of the body are they?

NotMyCat · 31/10/2021 22:57

Every day but my shower routine is excessive Grin

KaptainKaveman · 31/10/2021 22:58

Every day in the shower. I force my dh to regular ear cleaning too. For some reason his ears produce mountains of wax. It's like Madam Tussaud's in there!
There's nothing more gross than waxy/ grubby ears.

Cottagepieandpeas · 31/10/2021 23:00

Mine are very waxy. No idea why or if it indicates anything.
I was them every day.

I don’t wash my ears at all. They get sudsy when I wash my hair, which is once a week. No-one has ever recoiled or stared in horror at my ears.

HippeePrincess · 31/10/2021 23:02

I don’t specifically wash them, I use a cotton bud after I’ve had a bath.

DramaAlpaca · 31/10/2021 23:03

I've never given it much thought but I shower and wash my hair daily, so I guess my ears get done then.

Cosyblankets · 31/10/2021 23:05

Fancy admitting on here that you had more than one glass of wine!
I'm not sure I've thought about it. I shower every morning so I must do it then

Spongeboob · 31/10/2021 23:28

Many many ear piercings, they get washed when I wash my hair. Daily (oily skin). Good swipe with cotton buds in the nooks and crannies every other day to get rid of gross build up.

Shock calling the ear police
Tulips15 · 31/10/2021 23:34

I wash my hair 4x a week, shower daily.., I guess that counts? I don't actually do any specific ear wash!
*Starting to think that might be a bit, gross?

PivotPivotPivottt · 31/10/2021 23:38

I was actually thinking about this earlier on. I got a patch test done on Friday and I've realised tonight I've not washed my hair and now I'm wondering if I have a big mark behind my ear and what everyone behind me in the shops yesterday and today are thinking BlushGrin.

KittensWearingWoollyMittens · 31/10/2021 23:54

Interesting answers so far, thank you. I think it occurred to me when I was having a hot flush and I felt sweaty behind my ears. I then realised I don't actually wash them as such, they just get a stream of water over them when I wash my hair. Because of this I now use a flannel and also wipe them with a cotton bud. @Cosyblankets, I know, I am definitely a naughty MNer! 😂. And @Tulips15, i think you may have had the same réalisation as me ! Why do ears seem to be exempt from any kind of washing routine? Smile

Ears should be pretty much left alone - they are self-cleaning.

If you have a build-up of wax, or experience balance problems, then you may need to see your GP for a professional clean.

And never, ever, stick cotton buds in your ears!

5zeds · 01/11/2021 01:44

What do people buy cotton buds for if not to clean their ears?

KittensWearingWoollyMittens · 01/11/2021 11:04

@Furries, I am talking more about the outside of ears, back and front, rather than inside the ear canal
