To expect the roofers to pay for the internal damage?

My neighbour and I are getting the roof of our semi-detached house replaced. The roofers removed all of the tiles early in the job, and have put temporary weather proofing in place in the form of plastic sheeting nailed down with wooden batons. However, in some places the wind has lifted the sheeting and rain has got in, staining the ceilings, and one wall in two rooms below. Two other ceilings have small circles of damaged plaster caused by the hammering above. AIBU to expect the roofers to pay for the work to fix these problems (or to fix it themselves)?

I don't know the legal position, but personally I absolutely would expect the builders either to make good the damage or pay someone else to do so.

My next door neighbour and I had our joint roofs redone exactly a year ago, and I hand wrote on the contract that they would ensure that our houses would be watertight at all times!

Would it not need a claim on their insurance?

Grapewrath · 31/10/2021 12:07

Yanbu they can claim on their insurance

icedcoffees · 31/10/2021 12:08

That's what their insurance is for.

DH is a Scaffolder and says they should not for the loose plaster. As for weather damage, depends on contract and if you pushed for it to be done even thought the weather was bad.
