Anxiety and rude behaviour/bad manners?

Just wanting others opinions on this. Does poor mental health and anxiety make rude behaviour and bad manners acceptable?

I kind of understand that this family member can struggle sometimes and I try to help as much as I can but should we always have to accommodate rudeness and just let it go?

Even when their behaviour impacts me and upsets me?

Without context it's hard to say.

If you were to approach me in the street and try to speak to me my head would go down and shake while I mouthed 'no' and my hands would open and close. You would see rude. I'm actually autistic and can't deal with things like that well.

So it very much depends on what you mean by 'rude' and while there is no excuse for being rude there is every possibility that someone's mental health may present something that you see as rude but they are actually struggling just to function.

What do you mean by rude and bad manners?

My dd is autistic she wont hold eye contact, she may not be able to follow conversations and reply appropriately, she may not say thank you. Not because she is rude but is caught up in other things.

Anxiety can cause people to be abrupt, or leave a situation they are not coping with.

Paranoia can cause people to be hostile or challenging , or perceive threat where there is none.

Depends if you have overstepped their boundaries and they have responded in a rude way because they are feeling highly anxious by the situation.

Can you describe your situation OP?
