Pcos gone in my thirties?

Sunshine4you · 29/10/2021 21:24

I was diagonosed with pcos at 23, had regular periods but suffered with not so great skin and had the cysts in the scans.

Now I'm 32 and all symptoms have gone and just went for a scan and it's all clear?

Has this happened to anyone else?

I was for years taking vitamins to help with pcos but stopped all of them 6 months ago and it's since then I noticed all my symptoms have gone, skin is great too.

Basically all of my period issues including pcos disappeared when I had a baby.

It was bizarre. 20 years of monthly misery disappeared.

I think PCOS is so linked to diet and hormonal balance that it can ‘go’ in the right circumstances but I’m no doctor - can only talk for me.

Sunshine4you · 29/10/2021 21:57

Interesting. I had twins at 24 but that didn't get rid of my pcos. So I'm quite perplexed as how it has now. Happily perplexed as about to ttc again.

Yes this happened to me. I was diagnosed at 18 after having pretty much every symptom, but over the years they began to lessen. By the time I was late 30’s I had no symptoms and was told I didn’t have the condition anymore.

I went on to get pregnant very quickly at 40 (had DS) and then again at 41 (miscarriage) so conceiving wasn’t an issue either.

I think following a low sugar/carb eating plan is key though to maintaining weight and blood sugar levels to help the condition.

I was officially diagnosed with PCOS in my late twenties when I was having trouble conceiving. I suspect I had for years prior to that because I had all the wonderful symptoms that go with it. I was prescribed Clomid to assist with ttc which eventually worked. I went on to have your children and got my tubes tied when I was having a section with my 4th. Almost all my PCOS symptoms have gone since then and my periods are now regular - which was never the case before having kids. I haven't had a scan to confirm but I expect I no longer have cysts.

  • FOUR children ( not yours 🙈)

Me too, was diagnosed at 21 and when I had my dc at 31 was told I was completely clear. I expected to struggle ttc but it was instant. My skin cleared up too.

egglette · 29/10/2021 23:36

Great news, OP! Out of interest, what vitamins were you taking?

Poppiesway1 · 29/10/2021 23:51

@Sunshine4you The guidelines for diagnosing PCO on ultrasound have changed since you had your scan at 23. Many patients will now find that those diagnosed with PCO on a previous scan will no longer fall into the PCO category. This is a good thing as PCO was being over diagnosed by ultrasound and dr’s are now having to do blood tests as a first assessment for PCOS.

FluffyBooBoo · 30/10/2021 00:28

Yes, I was. Then had a scan of my ovaries for an unrelated issue, to find that they were clear.

Sunshine4you · 30/10/2021 00:42

@egglette I was taking vitamin D - myo inositol - fish oil and folic acid.

I wonder if there have been many studies on this. I did come across one study done that concluded that some women "grow out" of pcos and then become more fertile in later years.

I was diagnosed with pcos in my late teens, it was quite severe and I was told I'd never conceive naturally. Many years later after multiple treatments (inc private) and 10 years of trying I managed to have DS1 after taking fertility drugs. After his birth I did get a cycle of sorts but never thought I'd then go onto conceive naturally twice. My ovaries and hormone levels are not completely normal now but a lot better than before.

Sunshine4you · 30/10/2021 00:46

@mintdream did you become pregnant prior to 40 or were you on the pill up until that point? Just curious, of course don't answer if you prefer not to. It's great you fell pregnant so quickly. Sorry for your miscarriage.

@Sunshine4you that's amazing! I was diagnosed when I was 14 (lots of ugly symptoms). Unfortunately 2 dc later and still issues with hormones..I do wish it would sort itself out one day Grin

lnsufficientFuns · 30/10/2021 01:58

Mine disappeared after I went on keto

A few years later I had to have a minor op and they couldn’t believe I’d ever had it - no sign at all.

I had been told I couldn’t have children - I had two - absolutely the keto was the cause for me

SnailAndAWhale · 30/10/2021 04:19

I had a scan at 23 when I was having trouble TTC, and had very long cycles (60-100 days). Diagnosed with PCO but my bloods were ok so was only PCO not PCOS.

Went on to fall pregnant later that year. Fell pregnant again at 26, had a miscarriage with prolonged bleeding so sent for a scan. Asked about PCO and told I had no cysts at all and it was completely clear, and that sometimes it can clear itself up.

TheLeadbetterLife · 30/10/2021 04:20

I was diagnosed via an ultrasound in my early twenties. I had very irregular periods from puberty onwards, as well as some thick black hairs on my jawline that I have to pluck daily.

I’m childfree by choice and was on the pill for fifteen years, so I have no idea whether my fertility was affected. I came off the pill about 18 months ago and my periods are regular as clockwork for the first time in my life. I don’t know if this means I no longer have PCOS (I’m 40 now).

I still have to pluck the chin hairs though.

mintdream · 30/10/2021 08:05

@Sunshine4you. No, I didn’t try to conceive before 40 due to not having met the right partner. So, it was a massive shock to conceive in about 3 months and even that was actually due to pill failure.

From my own experience I do think it’s so important to get your weight under control (if that’s a concern of course) as it helped my symptoms enormously and I eventually got rid of the condition. I went from a size 18-20 to a 10-12 through a huge overall of diet and exercise.

yoyo1234 · 30/10/2021 09:11

Cleared up for me as well. Early 20s told wouldn't be able to have children. When pregnant with second told all clear. I think diet can have a lot to do with it.

Sunshine4you · 30/10/2021 22:17

But I haven't changed my diet at all, so not sure what happened! The only thing I can put it down to is growing older and hormones changing?

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 22 after a blood test. My main symptom was irregular periods (at that point I went without one for over a year). Ever since having a baby at 28 my periods have been really regular. Pretty sure I have PMDD now though!
