Considering ive just been told I have to wait around months to get a dental hospital appointment for an infected tooth to be pulled, no, no I do not.

If this is in reference to Covid then I think we should have learned not to be optimistic by now. Every time we think things are going back to normal a spanner is thrown in the works, especially in schools. Age of caution and realistic expectations all the way…

On the whole, I feel optimistic. The loud minorities that want to drag us backwards are not gaining ground. Despite the fear and threats, most people in RL are sensible.

Optimism for whom? The planet will be uninhabitable in 35y if we continue on this course yet Rishi gave us the least green budget he could imagine. We have the highest COVID cases in Europe but are refusing to put our masks on and to ask people to be vaccinated or tested before rubbing together in nightclubs. The social and educational inequalities are increasing, the middle income families are being squeezed from both sides, oh yes and I’m in HE so just voted for strike AGAIN to try to prevent losing A THIRD of my pension. Again.

Yeah, things are great, for some. Maybe I should have married a millionaire as Rishi did and I would have also thought things were great.

It is not in reference to any particular thing. It is simply how you feel summing up everything that is ahppening.

Well I think optimism doesn’t really come in to it - it’s about reality and what is happening right now and what has happened in the past. That needs to be analysed and then we can move forward (not with ‘optimism’ but with a clear head.) Its always easy to deflect and talk about the future when shit’s currently hitting the fan - sounds like an abusive relationship, ‘it will get better’. It won’t. Big changes are needed, a new government is needed. How can people be optimistic when the same failing leaders are still making decisions?

So you don't agree with Rishi Sunak then?
