To expect the hippy woo shop to be relaxing (light hearted)

We sometimes visit a hippy woo type shop in the nearby town. It's full of lovely incense, mobiles, crystals, clothing etc. and it's well worth visiting......

However......

.........The atmosphere is so tense when you go inside 😬

They have relaxing spa music playing and books on yoga, but the people who staff it are downright scary. You're glared at as soon as you enter, there's lists of rules on the walls - not covid related - questions are answered with a bark and the people are tense and irritable. I can't wait to leave. Dh agrees that it has a tense vibe.

I think visiting a hippy woo shop should be nice and relaxing, AIBU?

I love hippy woo stuff as well and yes some shops are definitely negative energy!

I’ve never heard the phrase ‘hippy woo shop’. I love it Grin

Wow, I wonder how the crystals survived all those tectonic forces underground

I'm afraid you just don't understand how crystals work Grin

Love a hippy woo shop Grin

I bloody love a woo shop. My chakras are in perfect alignment. Possibly.

And I know the exact one in 7 dials that PP mentions. Vaguely threatening. I’ve felt more comfortable walking into a local pub where the music stops and they all Turn to stare.Alas the incense sets my asthma off so I can’t stay long anyway. Hope that doesn’t mean they think they’ve won.

I am convinced that the one hippy woo shop near my brother’s house is a front for money laundering. I go in each time I’m there just to see if they have sold anything! The owner is miserable, and the staff equally suspicious of anyone in the shop. It is the only explanation I have for how they stay in business.

I used to frequent one lovely example of a hippy woo shop as a teen, the staff were lovely and I had a really cool joss stick holder that looked like a monk, the joss stick went inside the monk and the smoke came out from under the hood, like a ghost. Then it closed down and I have never found a similarly easy vibe in any I've visited since.

Totally craving s hippy woo shop now with the overpowering smell of incense, gentle string background music and tops with tiny mirrors sewn in.

Love a hippy woo shop.
Cultivate the same intensity and float around like you are on a higher level of spiritual awakening.
The only word you should utter is 'namaste' and go in before you have a Poundland or Primark bag hanging off your wrist.

@jamandmarmalade

There's a woo shop in Seven Dials in Neal Street near Covent Garden and that's eerily quiet there. I don't mean quiet because they are busy restocking geodes but they just stand still don;t smile or say hello.

I don't like it when staff follow you round asking ''is there something in particular you are shopping for today?'' but a smile or a nod as you come in is welcoming.

I applied for a job there once. They took my personal data (DOB, place of birth, time of birth) told me they'd only contact me if my personality was right for them, based on my astrology. I never got a call back but I don't think I would have worked there even if I did because they were so unfriendly.
