Wealthy people.

I nanny/babysit part time for people on holiday in the country I live in abroad.
It pays very well and I get to sit in beautiful villas and hotels, so even though I feel 15 saying I babysit 🤣it’s easy money.
I’ve noticed the abundance of things they have, the fridge and cupboards completely stocked and bursting at the seams. The children’s toys and activities/crafts, all newly purchased for the trip (my Dd would be in heaven)
The amazing toiletries.
It’s all so endless.
I don’t really live like this, do you?

Depends what you mean, really.

I have nice things - I make no apology for having 'good' brands of toiletries, make-up, perfume, etc. because I like them. My fridge/freezer/cupboards have plenty of food in them and they'd probably be seen as 'full', although nothing goes to waste. When we were children we had new toys or activity stuff bought for holidays, probably to keep us occupied on flights or in restaurants.

If they can afford it and they're not being overly wasteful, what's the issue?

This is going to sound like I am absurd but lockdown really flagged to me how many people have nothing whatsoever in their food cupboards/fridge beyond that weeks carefully planned shop.

I always have plenty of dry goods in - flours, sugar, oats, various types of rice and pasta, beans and lentils, lots of tins. Plenty of meat in freezer and pretty much a full fridge.

We wouldn't buy craft stuff specially for holiday but do always have a stash of felt pens, pencils, crayons, coloured card, glitter glues and other bits and bobs in.

I think we do take it for granted, massively.

A friend is less fortunate than me and I hadn't quite realised how much so til we visited her home and she had almost no childrens books at all and hardly any toys.

I did something similar @Eatinggilbertcrepe and I couldn't get my head around being paid to babysit at $100 a day at the time whilst the parents were there JUST IN CASE.

Re the stuff, it hit home for me too that we were very lucky to be able to have a couple of weeks of non-fresh food to fall back on and we could drag out old stuff the kids have forgotten about the amuse them.
