Anyone changed dates on Mat B form ? Or is it set from first NHS scan ?

I know I'll get slaughtered for this.. but here it goes.

I had a couple of private scans before my nhs scan and they predicted a estimate delivery date, which just about lines me up to get the full maternity pay from my company.

I had the nhs scan and they've estimated the date a good week earlier than my last scan at 10 weeks.

This puts me out of the mat leave pay. We are talking a huge chunk..

Has anyone ever been in this situation ? I'm genuinely surprised at the dating difference. I was supposed to be just 12 weeks based on my period and last private scan, now suddenly, I'm a week ahead and it throws up all sorts of problems.

Any advice?

Can the date change ? I feel like the sonographer made a mistake, it doesn't even line up with my period.. or the last two scans..

@FoxtrotSkarloey They won’t use the measurements from any other scan, whether they’re hospital or private. They’ll let you buy them, but the EDD is set from 12 weeks, and the MatB1 has to use that date, as it’s a legal document.

Sadly for all of us who are sure that the 12 week date is wrong!

@Kentuckycarby I’m glad all was okay with your baby! I don’t mind when they come; really, but I’ve been told that going over 40 weeks is not a good idea for me or baby due to pre-existing conditions, and now there seems to be a big argument about exactly when that is, and what the risks are.

Im hoping it’ll get clearer, but right now, my consultant is arguing that we should use the sooner date and my midwife is saying not.

Just put down your first due date… I’ve never been asked to prove my due date. Just put down the one you feel is the most accurate to you, if that’s the private one then so be it.

It’s the midwife that completes the MATB1, not OP….

When I worked in obstetrics (ages ago), if there was a discrepancy between dates, we'd usually go with LMP dates, unless the difference was massive. Have a chat with your midwife about the fact there are two factors supporting your dates (LMP and private scan) and only the NHS scan suggesting another date. They may agree that your original dates stand.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 27/10/2021 12:47

The nhs scan system in some hospitals is fucking ridiculous. I have large babies and with my second they just moved the date along so that the baby would track average. When in fact the baby was younger and larger. It was bonkers and no one understood what I was on about but because DS1 had been scanned at a different hospital/normally and just measured big and at the right time I knew the difference and raved like a lunatic about it.

sbhydrogen · 27/10/2021 12:50

I'd ask your midwife to leave the bit about expected week of delivery out. Mine left mine blank. Explain that it messes up your maternity pay and you'd like it a week out.

nomoneytreehere · 27/10/2021 13:57

Ummm. Speak to your midwife. Mine was happy to go with my dates.

anonymouse · 27/10/2021 20:35

I wasn't sure of dates when I had my booking appt as I had the shortest lightest period the month before. My 12 week scan ended up being 8 week and I was rebooked but my MATB1 had the first date so due date a month before it was stated on all my maternity notes. So in my case it was done on LMP. I had to send in proof of due date in the form of a letter from my midwife/GP or birth certificate to change it.

MissLC · 28/10/2021 12:12

My sister in law argued the toss with her EDD and the hospital agreed to change it. She just said she was sure of her ovulation date etc. NHS were putting her 2 weeks behind where she thought she was, so EDD was randomly brought forward by 2 weeks.
Baby ended up arriving 2 weeks after the amended EDD and on the NHS original date!

We were given an edd that we knew was wrong as we were even able to tell them the time of day eggs were fertilised not to mention when embryos were transferred as pregnancy was ivf. First hospital (we moved hospitals after 12 week scan because they refused to accept a twin pregnancy needed more frequent scans or appointments than single pregnancy) were insistent they use LMP even though it was artificially controlled. Hospital we transferred to were happy to use dates from IVF documentation and ignore the first hospital’s documentation!!

Clocktopus · 28/10/2021 12:30

I know a woman who had IVF and even though she tried to argue with the sonographer that there was no way she was pregnant a week before her embryo transfer that was the date on her matb1 form. So by all means try but you might be stuck, sadly

With I conceived DC3, DH had been away for two weeks, he came home then the DC had a bug and shared it so for two weeks one or more of us was ill, we finally got one night together for some adult time before he went away again. The only possible time I could have conceived was that one night (or the following few days to allow for ovulation, implantation, etc).

Had my dating scan and the measures used for dating reckoned I got pregnant during the two weeks DH was away, a full four weeks before even having sex Hmm

In case anyone is in this situation in the future, please try speaking to your midwife and medical team. I've had a very positive and supportive experience and got the dates changed.

Not everyone has a stick up their arse and some people in this world are actually helpful when it comes to a tiny discrepancy which can make a huge difference to a woman and her family. Good luck and don't hesitate to explain your situation kindly to your health care team and hope for the best.

A friend did the same 14 years ago too. A supportive midwife is key!

LittleGwyneth · 18/01/2022 15:41

Ask your midwife nicely when you're around 20 weeks and you get your form. Mine would unquestionably have done it.

Stelmosfire1 · 18/01/2022 15:41

As a Midwife I would not change the date if requested, our protocol is to go with the edd from the nt uss which is done between 11-14 weeks. I would however escalate the matter to the maternity management team to try to find an appropriate solution. Good luck!

That's fab news! You must be so relieved!

The NHS usually calculate mat pay by the EWC (expected week of childbirth) not due date?

Thefrenchconnection1 · 18/01/2022 18:54

This happened to me. It was really tempting to change it and I could have altered it without it looking like I had. I didn't but it was a dilemma. For me it was the difference of SMP or mat allowance so more or less 6 weeks salary. If it had been full pay for six months I may have done it

Just to reiterate - I didn't ' do ' anything to my form.

It was simply agreed we'd take the date of the private scan, after a review by the consultant too..
