That no one told me about postpartum cravings?!!

I’ve just finished a share box of malteasers I only bought an hour ago Grin Haven’t had them for years but they’re all I’ve been thinking about since I gave birth 5 weeks ago.

Anyone else had this? Had no cravings during my pregnancy at all.

Then calories don't count!
Grin
Allow a treat but make up a healthy snack box to keep near you when bf... Dh made me one!! It was amazing!!
Made him cut up and dissect several pomegranates - my favourite!!.

Yep, postnatal cravings definitely a thing. All I wanted after youngest DS was born was peach crumble. Totally weird as I hadn't had it since I left school 17 years before! Also, I was constantly thirsty when BFing. If you're 5 weeks in, I probably don't need to tell you this but (just in case :) ) make sure you're drinking enough water. The brain confuses hunger & thirst sometimes.

Thefaceofboe · 26/10/2021 14:54

Yes drinking plenty of water as I’m constantly thirsty, especially in the night. I’ve even considered getting up in the night for malteasers so has to tell DP to hide them Grin

The rest of my diet is good, I just wish I was craving carrots or something healthy Grin

How long did everyone’s cravings last?

YABU.

Maltesers are the worst. So dull and samey.

Thefaceofboe · 26/10/2021 14:56

@Cuntness Angry take that back!

Although I’d have agreed with you 5 weeks ago!

IME it's never healthy cravings!! And honestly, your little one is only 5 weeks and although there will be the calorie police who will tell you "not all calories are equal" (which I agree with but not in this context) just enjoy the time and leave any worry about calorie intake for whenever you stop BFing. BFing & caring for a newborn takes a lot from our bodies, not to mention the fact that it's trying to heal from pregnancy & birth. You say the rest of your diet is fine, in which case a box of Maltesers is a drop in the ocean. DS is now 17 so it's been a while but I think I had cravings for a good 3 months or so after his birth.

Sparklfairy · 26/10/2021 15:02

cuntness is clearly wrong. I wouldn't even say I like maltesers that much, but once a box is open I keep going back for more.

I've never even had a baby so no excuse Grin

MatildaIThink · 26/10/2021 15:06

I didn't have any cravings, but from about a week after birth for the first month I had an almost unquenchable appetite, I was hungry even when I was full, which is a weird feeling. I think that was the gestational diabetes working itself out though.

Cuntness · 26/10/2021 15:07

It's a hill I'm willing to die on.

(Congratulations on your new baby, btw!)

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 26/10/2021 15:52

I swear I gained more weight breastfeeding than when I was pregnant. I was starving all the time.

Thefaceofboe · 26/10/2021 16:01

@MrsDeaconClaybourne me too! But I blame it on the boredom of just being sat there

Maltesters!! I experienced this both times when my two boys were born. I could have eaten two share boxes of maltesers in a day. I had to take control of it after a while as I kept gaining weight surprise surprise.
