To tell you all this important fact about Miele tumble driers

I know this isn't really an AIBU but it really is worth telling everyone about.

Even though it's quite boring.

Our Miele tumble dryer was constantly turning itself off and beeping, complaining about its airways being blocked (even though we cleaned the fluff off them very assiduously every day** and even took out the whole big filter at the bottom of the machine and rinsed that out and everything).

So we called out a repair guy, who shrugged his shoulders and said he couldn't see anything wrong with it.

So then we called out a specialist Miele guy and he told us that not only did we need to clean the fluff off but also we should have been actually washing (with washing up liquid) the little detachable filters that go just in front of the drum.

Shock

Who knew?!!

Call out charge of over £100 for some guy (very nice man but still) to show me how to use some Fairy liquid.

So I thought I'd better tell all of you in case I'm not the only ignoramus.

Yes the huge cheese grater thing! Bloody nightmare and doesn't fit in sink. Repair man told me to take it into the garden and hose it - I thought that was a good tip.

Am trying to feel like I got my £100 worth Grin

Oh ps also he plugged it into his laptop and reduced its "sensitivity" Hmm

If only this were also possible for humans.

I have a Candy tumble drier which never dries anything and I feckin' hate it!

Not only that but if you clean the heat exchanger (filter) without cooling it down for about a week, then it goes out of shape and has to be reshaped with a heat gun or you can't get it back in the machine.

And don't get me started on the bloody fridge!

I hate cleaning this. For a Miele device this bit is very user unfriendly.

Thanks, mine is a Miele and has been doing this and not drying the clothes properly.

My last tumble drier was a condenser and you had to remove the massive block from the bottom and run it through with water every month or so. I used the hose, as a PP said, much more efficient.

I’ve got a heat pump one now so it has a different set up underneath, no massive removable block, just a foam filter at the bottom and a mesh cage that slides in just as you open the door. I empty the cage every time and vacuum the foam one when I remember, probably once a month/every 3 wks. I should probably give it a wash too.

Thank you so much. My Miele tumble dryer was 5 years old. Was cleaning out fluff after every load but was driving me mad. So sensitive to the tiniest bit of fluff. Starting to get scared of using it because of a fire risk.
Read your comment, washed all the filters and voilà, perfect working order. You’re a life saver, was thinking I had to purchase a new one. Thank goodness I googled my problem and your answer popped up.
Many thanks 🙏
