Red eyes were pointed out at work

I’m having a bad time at home and I’ve been upset/quiet. I was crying in the car park (in my car by myself) and went back to the office. My colleague pointed out my eyes and stated “what have you done to your eyes they look really nice”. We wear masks at work when waking around.

Was she being a bitch? I had my eyebrows and eyelashes dyed a few days before. Not sure how red my eyes were.

I thought everything was fine until I explained the tip to a friend.

Your title is totally misleading.

She gave you a compliment which you’ve missed because you were feeling sensitive.

LittleDandelionClock · 26/10/2021 13:32

REALLY confused as to why you think your colleague was insulting you. Confused

girlmom21 · 26/10/2021 13:34

I don't think she was complimenting your red, puffy, crying eyes.

Come on OP. I think you're just being over sensitive because you were upset.

I hope you're ok.

FeatheredHope · 26/10/2021 13:36

Really hope you’re ok OP because this is a seriously OTT overreaction to someone actually being nice to you.

Bumply · 26/10/2021 14:00

This sounds similar to when someone compliments me on my rosy cheeks, which in me indicates I'm coming down with a cold and feeling like death warmed up, so it's hard to take as you know there's a negative reason for 'looking good'

Cherrysoup · 26/10/2021 14:03

A colleague used to put on red eyeliner. It really enhanced her eyes. I don’t see how your colleague was being horrible?

smoko · 26/10/2021 14:16

Yeah this thread title is misleading - I thought you were secretly getting stoned at work & got sprung!

Haffiana · 26/10/2021 14:29

A much more likely question is, are you a bitch to think she is a bitch?

SummerHouse · 26/10/2021 14:42

I have read this as the OP thought nothing of it till she spoke to a friend about it. So thinking it's the friend who suggested the person commenting on the eyes was being a bitch? Rather than the OP initially thinking it?

thisplaceisweird · 26/10/2021 14:46

You're being oversensitive I think.

Your eyes were probably just a bit sparkly because of the tears and your eyelashes darker because they were red. Possibly your face had relaxed a little after letting it all out.

FleasInMyKnees · 26/10/2021 14:46

I am confused, what tip did you give your friend

rainonsunday · 26/10/2021 19:49

I didn’t think anything of it until I said it to the friend.

I also missed out the point where she said “everyone look at her eyes” as in for the team/office to see :/

I don’t speak to her to be honest.

^as in I’m only at work for a short term and we are dead busy

I once had to have an ID photo passport taken immediately after I’d been crying for ages.
It’s one of my husband’s favourite photos of me! (He didn’t know I’d been crying).
Of course, I’ve subsequently asked why (I think it’s awful) “Don’t know, there’s just something about it” 🤷‍♀️
I don’t think she was being nasty.

FlamesEmbersAshes · 26/10/2021 19:54

God, it must be so tiring overthinking every little thing. I’d be exhausted. I can’t believe people give stuff like this headspace.

NeverChange · 26/10/2021 20:00

Any chance you have dry eyes/overly sensitive to contact lenses if you wear them?

If so your eyes will nearly always look better after a cry as they are more moisturised.

Don5guve it a second thought.

ittakes2 · 26/10/2021 20:13

she prob assumed you had nipped out at lunch and had the colour done and the redness was due to the procedure.

DroopyClematis · 26/10/2021 20:17

Maybe you thought that people at work should have realised that you'd been crying and should have been saying "you alright hun?"
